Quartzsite Camel
What do Camels have to do with Quartzsite? click here for the link. Driving down the main street at the west end is a painted metal camel as a remembrance of Hi Jolly, who brought camels to Quartzsite here in 1856 as an experiment for the army. Now this is across from McDonalds, Burger King and Carl's jr, fast food restaurants that seem to thrive with winter visitors  looking for fast cheap food and warm gathering places. The desert climate is moderate in the winter meaning dry and no snow. Most days around the 70's f (20c) but night time is cool around 35f (1c). Once the sun warms things up and if there is no wind it can be quite nice.

After lunch today we thought we would check out the local free Music Jam at La Posa south BLM about 2 miles south of us.
music Jam
Just lots of Rver's getting together in the desert to play their music and sing their songs for anyone who cares to listen. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has erected a shelter here, complete with solar supplied electricity to be used for gatherings like this.

singing
Just bring a chair, sit back and enjoy. A pot of coffee is there and home made cookies for all who wish, maybe make a donation. Everybody got to sing their song or two, some from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Georgia, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Washington for about one hour and fifteen minutes then break time. A woman from Trenton Ontario sang a song about the Higway of Heroes, very nice. Now because of the cool wind today they decided to cut the jam session short, it was rather chilly sitting in the north wind even in the sunshine.

After chatting with a few people we returned to home dirt to sit in the sun and out of the wind at our house, very nice and cozy. And enjoy the beautiful pictures painted in the desert sky by the clouds and rainbows.

Read for a while then get the Barbie out and cook up some chicken, baked potatoes and corn for supper. then another great day has been enjoyed by us!
