Wow? Another interesting day on our journey of life. And I made a big bobo...

Where are we today ?
Spiceland Indiana
clic on a pic to enlarge it
The day started off pretty good. Coffees and a walkabout the large Walmart, computing done so thought we would hit the road 7:30 am. Pulled out of Walmart and missed the turn for the interstate, so made a quick turn and thought I could turn around by a bank machine. Oh no, the turn was too tight! Here we were turned sharp a tree in front of us and nowhere to go! Gotta disconnect the car quickly. Got that done backed up a bit (tree behind us) maneuvered around a few times, over a curb, broke our CB antenna on a tree branch, but we got out. Now that was some dumb move I made. Not the first and probably not the last. I was too teed off to take any pics..... of this mess.
After that mess we hooked the car back up and on the road 1/2 hour later.  Very strong winds today so we kinda played it by ear. Luckily mostly a tail wind again but we could still feel it. Stopped at every rest area to stretch, loosen my arms and away we go . Another upper body workout today. The winds were 32 mph with gusts reported at 57 mph. Only really noticed it badly when we stepped outside, blow us away.
All in all was a pretty good drive and just sailed right through Indianapolis no problems there and very little traffic.
not much traffic here in Indianapolis
we lucky
thought this was  WATER TOWER?
not sure what it is
love the quiet roads
Pulled into the Flying J at 2:15 pm , actually 3:15 here Eastern Time zone. Fuel up and once again great gas mileage, 8.25 mpg compared to the normal 7.2. These high tail winds are good for something. The wind was so strong it blew my credit card right out of my hand and I chased it across the lot a couple hundred feet, but did get it then held on tight.
here we are nice and cozy
for the rest of the day and night
this is the Spiceland Water tower
that sign was hitting the ground because of the wind
No need to travel anymore today, a few miles down the road we will be heading north and this tail wind will turn into a fierce crosswind, not fun ! Got parked and relaxing here, just watching the weather at least the sun is shining.
Now have you ever been on a cruise ship in high seas ?  We have, the ship is rolling with the waves and to walk the hallways etc you stagger like a drunken sailer even when sober. Hang onto things so you don't fall down or bump into the walls. That's what this feels like, bonus we can pretend we are on a cruise ship without spending all that money ya think? We have different scenery every day too as well.
But now after trying to walkabout outside, time for supper. Tonight the rest of our chicken pot pie from last night and a salad hit the spot. Then we can watch the weather and a tv show and be rocked to sleep, Kinda cool!
tasty supper
The wind is still blowing at 7:30pm and have some snow fluffies. When it clears up in the morning we will hit the road, or not. Our plans are written in jello.
But ya know soon summer will be here again, hopefully before we know it.
Thanks for taking a peek at us today, hope you are enjoying yours day too!
272 miles today

  1. Oh dear. What a day. When we had our motor home, we had to disconnect and turn around because of railroad tracks. What a pain. Sorry to read about the CB antenna.
I like that you will be ...rocked to sleep...hehe.

    1. It can be a nuisance to disconnect but not a big deal after 10 years hooking up the car it's a breeze.
Just hate when we get in these spots. It's only a CB antenna, I get another.

  2. Can't believe you decided to drive with 57mph gusts. At least they were behind you. That probably was pretty disgusting to realize you couldn't get out of the bank without some damage. Be safe tomorrow and just play it by ear. Those crosswinds can be dangerous as you well know.

    1. Well the [predictions were 20 mph west winds which would push us down the road. But once we got here I checked the local weather and it was then I found out the 57 mph gusts.
I hate when we get stuck like that.

  3. Some times there are days like that. Nobody hurt, that's the main thing. Been snowing like mad here for the last few hours. Hopefully it melts off right away. Don't want that stuff hanging around.

    1. No body hurt that's all that matters, hope that white stiuff goes away real quick.

  4. That round thing, I believe is a radar dome. Maybe for checking weather conditions.

    1. I thought maybe that's what it was, thanks Dizzy.

  5. I can confirm the first'water tower' is a weather radar dome. I had the fun of climbing those steps up there a few times during software testing. if you keep finding wind you should get a kite - along the lines of lemons and lemonade, wind and kites go together. Safe travels!

    1. Thanks Jeff, I don't think a Kite would survive with winds like this!

    1. It was an interesting day, never a dull moment.
Charlie, I bet that wind would have blown you away, I could hardly stand up in it.

  7. Good thing that you stopped. 60 mph winds in western Ohio and whiteout conditions in spots from the snow blowing sideways.Temps dropping to mid 20's(F).

  8. I absolutely hate those fierce winds. Even when I am driving a heavy highway coach it sucks. Whenever we were met bu storm winds we parked our rig, usually for the night hoping for better weather. Once in Wyoming we were having crosswinds of +70mph and it almost flipped us over. Later we saw 4 semis along the highway - all their side. NO FUN!

    1. It was not that bad driving with a tail wind, if it was a cross wind we would have shut it down much sooner.

  10. Accidents do happen, don't they? But most can be repaired, replaced or otherwise fixed.... (the voice of experience here).... nobody blown away and at least you have a tail wind and not a head wind. Almost home... and you play it safe, so all is well ;-)

    1. Yes accidents do happen, and this one an easy fix. Into Wapakoneta today for 2 nights, then heading home.

  11. The RV gremlins rose up and attacked you. It's crazy how things like that can happen....but, as you state, it is likely not the last time.

Best of wishes for no hiccups going forward.

  12. We had the same thing happen last week. Pulled in to a truck stop for a break and fuel. Took the wrong lane a found ourselves in a small parking area blocking the drive through for a fast food place. To make it worse the tow bar was somewhat jammed and giving me a hard time disconnecting the car all the while cars are backing up in the drive thru! A nice trucker came and helped me disconnect and turn around. Boy did I feel dumb!! But in the end all is well and had ourself a good day.

Nice of the trucker to help you.

  14. At least a CB antenna is an easy fix, plus Flying J has a great assortment to choose from. Sorry, but I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that makes boo boos with an RV. Experience is directly proportional to the amount of equipment ruined... :cD

    1. This Flying J did not have the antenna I wanted but no hurry, I have replaced it once before.
You are so right and we do get experience !
