Fri. July 30th Arkona Ontario

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer, since August. 2006

A nice sunny Friday and all is well here . I went to the store for a few grocery items then back home to putter arpound for a while. Suzie went to town for a massage to help out her sore shoulder and arm, it now almost as good as new. Then  I took our car to the Mufflerman to have a bit of exhaust work done.

Back home we puttered around for a while, picked up a trunk load of firwood for $6.00 and when my daughter and family arrived for their rental cabin we started a nice campfire and cooked up some hot dogs for supper, on a bun and our Grill-A-Dog, (and camping favourite).
While they unpacked and the two older grandchildren ran about played and made friends and the youngest decided she wanted to be outside to play and not sleep like mommy says.

We all had a great day and now off to bed to rest up for a busy weekend,

Thurs. July 30th Rock Glen Resort

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer, since August. 2006

A nice sunny morning and we left 50 Point in Grimsby Ontario heading to Rock Glen Resort. We made a stop in Kitchener to drop my computer off for repairs then on to Arkona arriving at 1:00pm. We set up in the Orchard across from the cabins where my daughter and her family are staying for the weekend. Friends Rob and Pat dropped by and we set up our satellite dish and chatted for a while comparing travel notes. Followed by a nice supper of left over lasagne and a tossed salad and a relaxing evening at home. My computer should be back next week sometime.

Wed. Aug 28th 50 Point

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer, since August. 2006

Another hot humid day, we packed up and left Lazy Lakes Resort at 9:00am and headed for the Canadian Border. A short wait here and no problems with customs then along the QEW to 50 Point Conservation area. We checked in here for one night  and got the last available campsite an easy drive we were set up by 11:00am.

After a quick bite to eat I assembled a large pot of pasta sauce and let it simmer for a few hours in the afternoon.  A few heavy rainfalls and we relaxed for a bit. Then we had a visit for happy hour with Roy, Cathy and their dog Lexus, who we have not seen since Mazatlan Mexico. Lasagne in the oven and a caesar salad prepared. After 5:00pm Larry and Marilyn arrived home from work (we have not seen them since Mazatlan Mexico either) walked Buster and Angel and visited with Marilyn's relatives Dale, Sheila and Nathan.

Shortly after 6.00pm it was pouring rain again so all nine of us agreed to gather at Larry and Marilyn's  temporary home, a huge 5th wheel trailer for feast of lasagne, caesar salad and garlic bread, socializing and getting caught up with our lives. A fun time was had by all.

My computer will be going to the hospital thursday (3 year warranty) and hopefully back after the long weekend. When I will upload some pictures that I have taken, unless I can figure how to put then on Suzie's pc. and get it done that way. After using a Mac for a year the pc seems so slow and awkward in comparison.

Mon. July 26th Cambria NY

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer, since August. 2006

Monday and it's the beginning of a brand new week. Sun shining, warm, no rain and a light breeze, life is good. A walkabout in the morning and a trip to the store for a few more food items only available at the local stores here. Back home we had lunch then got the laundry done, which is not a lot when living this lifestyle. You don't need a lot of clothes to hang out at a campsite day after day with temperatures in the 30's C (90'sF).

After this we were able to read for a bit in the shade then prepared a nice supper of BBQ'd chicken, baked potato and a tossed salad.  After supper Steve dropped by for a visit and we chatted for a bit sharing some ideas of places to see and things to do this coming winter season.

Lots of Canada Geese on the pond
Today was sunny and hot again but next to no humidity. A walkabout and a bike ride around the resort I noticed a very large population Then I got to work replacing more of the caulking on our coach, because I have noticed a few areas that appear to not be sealing as well as it should. After a couple hours of this it was time to relax some and do a bit more reading in the shade. Then prepare a nice salmon filet for supper.

With a rice pilaf and some very sweet asparagus, too yummy. Then we went back outside to read a bit and noticed Steve wandering down the road behind us. They must have snuck in while we were having supper. So off we go to say hello to him and Barb whom we have not seen since early March when we stopped at Picacho Peak Resort in Arizona for a few days. Nice to catch up again.

Sat. July 24th Cambria New York

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer, since August. 2006

Another hot, humid day, overcast and raining off and on. We had another relaxing day with a nice walkabout between rain showers to the craft sale at the clubhouse, and even a few bike rides as well. We did some computing, trying to put together a tentative itinerary for our upcoming winter migration.

This is a very busy resort, all day long rv's were coming and going. Something we have never noticed before as we have not been here on a weekend in the summer. Most resorts we have been to people come for the weekend and leave. Everyday here is busy.

Then we were able to sit outside under our awning enjoying the rainfalls, cooling mist and even read for a while between rain showers. Before we knew it was time for supper, BBQ'd hamburgers and french fries were on our the menu today, our little Fry Daddy sure comes in handy.

After supper more rain we read outside for a while then relaxed with a nice movie on tv for a change.

Fri. July 23rd

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer, since August. 2006

It was warm and humid overnight with a very heavy rainfall, huge puddles all over the park. With temperatures in the 90'sf (34c plus),warm winds and overcast skies, for the most it was a nice summer day. After a walkabout, and ride around the resort we puttered around for a while. We were able to sit outside and read, then chatted with a new neighbor for a while. Mid afternoon we had a visit from the honey wagon to pump out our waste water tanks, there is no sewer hook-ups where we choose to park. As the day progressed the campground continued to fill up, not many empty sites now.

Then supper was a delicious light supper of garlic butter tilapia (fish), rice pilaf and more fresh sweet asparagus.

Thurs. July 22nd Cambria New York

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer, since August. 2006

Overnight was nice and warm and the bright sunshine this morning began another great day. The plastic nose piece on Suzie's glasses was broken so we took a drive to to the Walmart Optical On Military road and had them repaired for $1.88 plus tax, pretty good deal. While here we wandered about the store and were able to find some gifts for two young grandsons with upcoming birthdays. Back home we enjoyed a light lunch, puttered around, even a nice bike ride around the resort checking out the store and pools.

cutting our yard
After all this exercise, we relaxed in the shade with a book, while the grass in our yard was cut for us. Kinda like this lifestyle, free camping, no electric, no water, no tax bills, and the landscaping is done for us as well.

After such a stressful day we had a craving for a pizza, something we have not had for a long time. And it just so happens that Little Joe's Pizza & Subs in Ransomville do make an awesome Pizza and deliver to the campground, for a very real reasonable price of $12.50 for a medium 8 slice with 7 toppings on it! We also added 10 huge real Buffalo chicken wings for $6.75, now we have enough for 2 meals, yummy.

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer, since August. 2006

Another warm day and enjoying it. In the morning after a walkabout I picked up a few groceries at Tops, then back home to putter around for a while and a bit of lunch. After lunch the skies were quite cloudy and winds picked up. We checked the weather channel and a storm warning was in the works with very high winds, heavy rain and possible hail. With this in the works we just unsecured our awning and rolled it up for a bit. The rains stopped and we were able to sit outside in the shade to keep and  eye on it. Nice to relax and read again for a while, then supper was BBQ'd pork ribs, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes , and some yummy fresh asparagus.

Tues. July 21st Lazy Lakes

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer, since August. 2006

Overcast morning and supposed to rain, but we got lucky and it did not happen. We packed up and were on the road by 9:00 am for a nice relaxing drive to the Queenston/Lewiston crossing into the USA. Our border crossing went well, only about a 20 minute wait, right at 11.30 am which was a good time while sitting in line, to enjoy our turkey sandwiches we had made or lunch.

Our first stop was a Tops grocery store for a few items and 30 cans of beer only $16.49 an excellent price. The we stopped at Smokin Joe's gas bar to fuel up our coach. Gas here was $2.64 US per gallon (.74 cents a liter Canadian) another good deal. I did the math 52 gallons of gas is 197 liters with a savings of .30 cents a liter was $59.10 we saved on this one fillup. Then we stayed in our membership park Niagara Lazy Lakes  Resort for 9 nights of free camping, its almost like getting paid to travel!

We checked in about 1:00pm and set up on a nice large site, so that we could have afternoon shade, it was a very nice 94f (36c) and quite enjoyable to relax and read. We even got our new satellite dish set up with no problems at all. For supper I whipped up another feast of chicken wings, fries with celery carrots and dip. Then a relaxing evening outside reading in the warm fresh air.

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer, since August. 2006

      Happy Monday!

Monday in the campground and all is pretty quiet. The kids are gone, most of the campers are gone, kinda relaxing. We puttered around a bit today tidied up a bit and packed up a few items, because we are on the road Tuesday morning to Lazy Lakes Resort near Lewiston New York, for a week or so. We were able to sit and read for a while in the afternoon, but found it rather chilly at 24c (72F) guess we have been spoiled with the lovely hot weather. Then around 4 o'clock Rob, Pat, Harry and Jackie joined us for Happy Hour just chatting about our planned trips and tours over the next few months. And comparing notes to places that we have been and ran into each other.

Then a nice supper of a hot beef sandwich, boiled potatoes and veggies. And return outside with a sweat shirt to keep warm and read for while longer, before calling it a night.

Rock Glen Falls
What a fun time with 2 of my kids, their spouses and 3 Grandchildren this weekend.

Saturday morning and we are having a busy day, playgrounds, walkabouts, swimming, hot dogs and sausage for lunch, more playgrounds games and enjoying everybody's company. Then mid afternoon the winds picked up and the rains came. A huge downpour for and hour or so, the a few inside activities. A movie in the cabin and sitting outside watching the rain. Jane worked on a yummy potato salad, grilled veggies and chicken thighs for supper, soo good. The rains stopped the sun came out and with supper finished the wagon ride around the resort, always a fun time for the kids. We used the BBQ to dry out our soggy firewood, and Suzie got a nice fire under way for all to enjoy. More marshmallows and smores, stories and fun. Another nice evening under the stars.

Sunday morning, and sunny again. First thing in the morning my daughter came to visit for a coffee  and the kids for cartoons. Its nice that they have a cabin behind us and are so close. Once everybody was up a few of us went for a walk across the road to the check out Rock Glen waterfalls, and the conservation area there. Back home some playground fun then a swim in the pool, before an early lunch made by Jane again, then pack up as they had to check out of their cabin by noon. The kids participated in the Rock Glen Olympics in the Square right behind us having too much fun, the oldest came in second place and won a free slushie from the campground store. Then all tired out Kim and Brian packed up our 3 grandchildren for the 3 hour ride back home. Ken and Jane hung around for a while, relaxed and put some calamine lotion on their many bug bites. (the only ones here who reacted to any of the bugs). I guess we are immune.

After they left we relaxed for a bit then joined Rob and Pat (our neighbours) for a nice happy hour then a quiet supper of a BBQ'd prime rib steak, potato salad, grilled pepper and sliced tomatoes. Then it rained again, a sign for us  to watch a bit of tv and have an early night. It sure was a fantastic, busy weekend with everybody here enjoying the great outdoors.
Here is link to a few of the many pics I took over the weekend.

Fri. July 16th

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer, since August. 2006

Another great sunny day, with more perfect hot summer weather. Shortly after 12:00 my oldest daughter and son-in law arrived with 3 of or grandchildren, they have rented a cabin for the weekend. We chatted for a bit, had lunch and the kids played in the playground for a bit while their cabin was being cleaned.
the boys playing
Once they checked in the cabin, the youngest laid down for a nap and we took the boys to the splash pad to cool down for a while.

Later in the afternoon my son and his girlfriend arrived and we sat on the deck of the cabin, chatted for a while then she proceeded to assemble pork tenderloin and fresh corn on the cob for a nice feast. While brian and the boys went for swim in the pool.

Then after supper gramma Suzie showed the boys how to build a real campfire, so the smores could be assembled, and the boys fell asleep in Uncle Ken's small tent.

Thurs. July 15th Arkona

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer, since August. 2006

Well we finally switched our satellite tv provider. We now have Star Choice or Shaw) Direct as they are now known. We have had Bell express view for years and has worked fine for us except if they find out you cross into the USA they cut you off. And reception in Arizona/California is limited but non existent in Mexico. We spent 3 months in Mexico last winter with no english speaking TV, and missed the Olympics. The only people who had English speaking Satellite tv in Mexico were our Canadian neighbours with a Star choice dish. So we took advantage of their offer, free receiver, dish and installation and no contract. It was installed and set up at our campsite last week in Buckhorn and works really well for us, and they will support us in Canada, USA and Mexico. Our old system used the automatic dish on the roof of the coach, real simple. Push a button, dish rises and acquires a signal. Now Star choice uses a different style dish so the roof one cannot be used, so I now use the tripod to set it up manually and amazingly it was pretty easy for my first time setup. Oh we can get an automatic Star Choice dish for our roof but it is pretty pricey, so we will try this setup and see how this goes, lots of other rv'ers use a dish on a tripod so I am sure I can master the system.
our new satellite dish
In the morning I took a drive into the village and saw a couple of fawns cross the road in front of me, they stopped and stared then scampered off into the bush. A beautiful sight.
two fawns on the road
Back home I puttered around and removed and reinstalled some more caulking on our coach, all the high areas are done now. By noon it was getting a little too hot to work in the sun 32c (90f) with the humidex about 40c (105f) but perfect for other less strenuous activities in the shade, like a walk about, chat with neighbours, and read a bit.

Mid afternoon a familiar trailer pulled in and it was friends of ours, Rob and Pat with their dog Lady Girl and 2 grand daughters. They set up behind us in the shade across the square and we got together for Happy hour in the shade, with a nice breeze and caught up with each others lives. The last time we saw them was Nov. 2008 in Willis Texas when we returned from our Caribbean Cruise and found them camped next to us. Its so nice to run into old friends.
Rob & Pat
After this we had a yummy supper of a BBQ'd turkey breast with cranberries, garlic bread and cheese and fresh tossed salad. The campground wagon ride this evening was early at 6:30 pm to beat the thunder storms coming into the area. This they did and the skies opened up at 7:00pm with very heavy rains, thunder and lightning allowing us to relax inside for a change, read a bit and even watch a movie on tv.

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer, since August. 2006

Still hot and humid, sure makes me love summer. Most of the day about 30c (88f) and humid. We putter around for a bit and I went to Forest for a few items in the  morning. Back home we had lunch then Suzie went for a massage in town, I borrowed a ladder from the resort and worked on replacing the worn caulking on our coach. After a few hours of this it was time to relax to do a bit of reading and enjoy a short happy hour with Harry. While a nice pot roast with potatoes and carrots was cooking in our slow cooker all day. After a delicious supper we took a walkabout, then read a bit more outside on another  beautiful warm evening.

Tues. July 13th To Rock Glen Resort

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer, since August. 2006

Well we have been at Galvin Bay for 2 weeks now and time to move on. So we finish packing up and head out about 9.45 am. There was supposed to be rain, but we did not see any all day until we began to set up at our favourite site at Rock Glen Resort and then it only sprinkled a bit. The drive is 400 kms (240 miles) and took us 5 hours including a stop for lunch and fuel. By the way gas this time was $102.9 a litre = ($3.89 per US gallon).

We got all set up and relaxed for a bit then a quick trip to the store for a couple of items, then a nice supper of schnitzel, fried rice and fresh asparagus. Then a walkabout the resort and a stop at the store for an ice cream cone and back home to read outside for a while and chat with a few neighbours here as they walked by.  We are still having amazingly hot weather here and enjoying every minute of it.
