Sunrise to sunset with wind and rain in between, never know what the desert will do for us.

Where are we today ?
clic a pic to enlarge it
A great sleep last night, not too cold at all up at 4:30 and was 56f inside, Turned on our Blue Flame set it on 2 out of 5 and less than 20 minutes later was 74F, and the thermostat kept that temperature, wow that is wonderful.
Got a nice walkabout around 7 am not too much of a sunrise but the weather was shorts weather for me, loving it. Puttered around for a while and started a pot of chicken noodle soup from the bone we had in the freezer.
first walkabout just before 7 am and caught a nice sunrise
reflecting on the mountains to the west
While they were boiling away I whipped into town to Herbs Hardware to get a handle to install on our new heater. This makes it easier to lift and  move around and back into the bathroom when it's shower time. I also added some small pieces of carpet to the heater's feet so as not o scratch our new floor.
this be Herb's
this handle makes it easier to move
carpet on the feet to slide on our new floor
Finished making the soup and we both enjoyed a bowl for lunch. Not a very nice day for playing outside with a south wind at  around 25 mph  and a storm warning so we secured out chairs, nailed down the mat and set our Weber Q on the ground under the coach. Don;t want this stuff to blow away!
smells so yummy
a nice tasty light lunch
We had some wind and dust blowing around us but we were not right in it. At about 2:30 pm we saw the storm coming towards us and then a light rain for about 90 minutes. Just enough to dampen the ground a bit (keep the dust down) , few puddles here and there beginning with a bit of water in the small wash beside us.

nice that the dust is over there
here comes the storm
yup we got rain
Did manage to get some reading time inside, I read better outside but not too good with the rain and the wind.
Before the rain began it was 77F and less 1 hour later it dropped to 55 F., it is amazing how the weather here in the desert can change so quickly.
another new page turner today
a few puddles over here
a bit of water in the wash  beside us
For supper tonight I am making  Chicken Parmesan Alfredo to use up some Alfredo sauce from  the other night for the recipe you can click  HERE or my recipe blog top right sidebar
smells yummy. no
Weber Q tonight with the wind and rain
love our propane oven
added to our salad was excellent
Now with all the clouds, wind and rain today we actually got to experience another desert sunset.
just starting to set when the clouds lifted
and some nice colour again
Really not a bad day after all, not too cold and we got some things done.
No matter the weather sure beats all the cold and snow back home, plus if it gets too cold all we have to do is turn on our new Blue Flame and we toasty warm in no time.
Thanks again for stopping to see how we doing here in the desert at home dirt.

Where have we been this winter ?

  1. Did you get two handles? We too stay hunkered down most of the day, except for a trip to the dumpster. The temps dropped very quickly and we tucked our chairs under the nose of the 5'er to keep them from blowing away as well. We could see the dust flying by at times too. Not sure I like the smell of a wet desert. Dinner looked good!

    1. Yes I got 2 one for us and 1 for Bill and Patsy.. Our chairs and and tables in the back seat of the car.
We are familiar with the smell , the creosote bushes when they get wet I believe. If we get enough rain over the winter the desert will look amazing in the spring with flowers and green. That was last spring and was amazing.

It was quite the day for weather from a great start to a rainbow at the end.

  3. Even the desert needs to take a shower now and then. A good and satisfactory test for your heater, but may not be what you wanted on your vacation. "The sun will come out tomorrow ..."

    1. It is amazing how the desert changes with a little rain, the heated is awesome. No matter the weather we enjoy it, can't be perfect everyday, that might get boring.

  4. I make something similar with hamburger, a kind of Stroganoff. 1/2 an onion, some pepper strips, and a can of sliced mushrooms. I add beef bovril to the hamburger and brown it, steam the vegetables with the hamburger after draining the fat with some Lee & Perrins, then add the alfredo sauce. I precook some egg noodles, then add them in and let it simmer on very low heat. Make a substantial amount!

  5. I'm hoping some rain will make the desert bloom in a few weeks. Sure washed the dust off here in Yuma.
Good ideas for the Blue Flame!

  6. I'm glad you didn't get hit too hard. I watched the weather on my phone and it looked like you were getting hit hard. It skirted around us here in Indio ... a tad windy and not too much rain. Dinner looks YUMMY!!!

    1. We did not get hit too hard where we are just enough to settle the dust down for a while and waster the desert plants. Yes it was windy. and dinner very tasty.

  7. I hope that things dry out quickly for you. Great idea to add the carpet to the bottom of the new heater.
