Cooler but sunny, and issues with the government shutdown

Where are we today ?
clic a pic to enlarge it
Things around here are becoming quite interesting with this government shutdown.
Then later noticed this sign by our check in office, meaning they intend to shut down the water and sewage dump station at 11 am Monday morning. Could not be a busier time here in Quartzite the busiest week of the year.
Not fussy on an early walkabout until it warms up a bit so at 7:30am  a run into Town (before the traffic starts) stopped at the Roadrunner Market for a few supplies. I drove around La Posa West and noticed these signs at the check at office about the Government shutdown.
It was much colder last night but we quite comfy here. At 5 am it was 36f  (2c) but in no time our Blue Flame heated brought our inside up to 75C and the thermostat maintains that and as the sun rises  we enjoyed the warmth of the sun, with a clear blue sky and less wind than yesterday. This mornings sunrise is show promise of a much warm day in the sun.
sun shining on the mountains to the west of here
a nice sunrise

Garbage dumpsters are not being empty
line up for the sewage dump at one point I counted 30 rv's in line
an average of 2 every 1o minutes its a long wait
mind you have seen this many before in the past
It was a very nice sunny day but a cool wind think it only got to 58F but we could site outside and read, most of the afternoon, our windbreak (blue Tarp) to keep the cold wind off our feet.
wind behind us , so was quite comfortable
Just after noon I gathered our empty water containers and sat in line just for about 15 minutes , reading my book anyway so no problem, We have enough conatiers for 15 gallons that will keep us going for a while.
this lone just for water
nice blue skies and a jet stream
Then at 3 pm Happy Hour at Bill and Patsy's thought we would try outside and was actually quite comfortable mostly out of the wind. Tom and Deb joined us and we did our usual share stories .
this a panoramic  picture I took
worked pretty good.
This lady across from us unloading her van and going to set up a pup tent
Around 4 pm we noticed the Police, fires department and ambulance head further back and a while later made there way back out, not sure what was going on.
Suzie got her doggie fix with Clemson
good boy
For supper tonight making some honey Pecan chicken got the recipe from Deb, Thanks Deb for the recipe you can click here or my recipe blog top right sidebar
ready to grill
done on the grill mat and 2 plain pieces for lunches
this was excellent !
tonights sunset
this sunset from last night amazing, I forgot to post it
It was actually a pretty decent day, here a bit cooler and windy but at least sunny blues skies. But much better than back home, no complaints here.
Thanks for stopping in and hope y'all had a wonderful day as well.

  1. 2C is pretty nippy but good that it warms up over the day. Please keep us posted on what is happening with the government situation. Nice that there are a few options to dump and get water but I'm sure that they will charge you.

    1. It is nippy but we comfy inside , then outside in the sun. The other options are pay but reasonable right now.

  2. Sure hope they resolve the shutdown. It could get very messy there with no garbage pickup or water/sewer services. Yikes!

  3. The wind makes it feel cooler but the sun is so hot, it makes it feel warmer. Gotta love this weather. We're not worried about the shut down and fingers crossed the garbage gets cleaned up tomorrow.

    1. It should be an interesting time here not much more we can do other that wait and see. The carnage is an issue I agree.

  4. Glad you liked the chicken George. We like it and it is so easy to prepare.

Wow, that's a pain with all that stuff being shut down but other options available is good and that certainly eases those issues. However I think the garbage might be a real problem, maybe not this week as it's cooler but if it heats back up soon, it could become a health hazard as well as attract some unwanted critters. I can't see a contractor continuing to dump the garbage bins if he's not getting paid.

I like the tarp idea for the wind at your feet, I never thought of that, I'll bet it works great.

    1. Thanks for the recipe Deb this chicken is wonderful. The Garbage issue is the big one I agree, we will see what happens.
The tarp does a good job on a windy day makes it much nicer our.in the sun.

  5. We are on our way to Big Bend in a little over a week. Campground still open but no guarantee of a spot even if we have a reservation. Visitor center closed, bathrooms open, etc. Sad.

  6. Hope the cool down and the shutdown don't last long. I didn't realize the long term area employees were government paid, but guess they are.

It really is bad timing for "Q" visitors with the facilities being shut down.

Looks like Happy Hour wasn't brought to a halt. That's good.

    1. We thought the Volunteers here were volunteers, meaning not paid. So it should not make any difference.
It take a lot more that this to shut Happy Hour down.

  7. I agree with Doug, sure couldn't have happened on a worse week! The dumpsters are amazing, and everyday gonna get worse I'm thinking..wow! Hopefully people can hold on to their garbage for a few days rather than just pile it over and over at the dumpsters. Hoping this shut down doesn't last long. I am glad that even without services that the National Parks are open. Last time this happened the President shut them all, which sure wasn't fair to a lot of the international visitors that appreciate and visit the parks and Americans. Sunset, dinner and Happy Hour all looked awesome!!

  8. We read about the shutdown, thanks to a couple blogs we follow. That, and the big crowd here for the show week, I figured services would be busy. We prepped sort of doomsday like before arriving at Q. :-) However, trash will be an issue.

    Enjoyed your sunset photos, thanks!

    1. We are fine for a couple of weeks too, but the Trash is the biggest issue, guess we will just have to wait and see, Enjoy your time in Q.

  9. Government shutdown ... how ridiculous!! I imagine many of the people around there will leave with no water or dump stations. They are only making a much bigger mess of things. You watch ... people will start dumping right on the ground. They just have no idea of the results of their stupidity!! On a brighter note, dinner looked amazing!!!

  11. Incredible mess at the dumpsters, fortunate that most people were expecting the long lines but how can they shut down the water and sewer? At least the sewer I recall was just a hole in the ground.... with a rock on top. Hopefully this won't last long but its a good point, aren't they volunteers? This government shut down business seems to happen a lot these days, perhaps they should change the game and let the government fall like we (Canada) do. Glad you guys are still having a good time and maintaining happy hour will help I suspect. LOL

  12. Those lines for the dump station plus having to pack up to go there is why we only dry camp when forced to - like overnight in at a Walmart.

    1. We are not forced to go, we can get by here no problem for a couple of weeks, and we really enjoy the wide open spaces.

  13. So sorry about the gov't shutdown. Seems to be the only way the Dems have any leverage on the promises Obama's gov't made to the dreamers. Yikes, what a mess!

    1. Not your problem, no need to be sorry Clancy. It is what it is and we can be very resourceful as you know. The mess is being cleaned up as we speak.
