Where are we today ?
Well we travelled yesterday arriving here about 4 pm over 80f, shorts, t-shirts and even had our air conditioner on, sounds perfect right? Well overnight the temperatures dropped to 24f with a wind chill making it about 16 f. Then add to that freezing rain and sleet gonna happen all day. This morning the parking lot is icy, our coach is covered with ice. Think we will just stay right here. We have water, propane, gas, internet and tv. Walmart open 24 hrs, what more do we need?
We have solar power but no sun, so thats not helping much. Go to fire up the generator, hmm not wanting to start. So thinking that with it being on the cold side of the coach its possible a frozen gas line. With the Walmart right here I picked up some gas line antifreeze and dumped in three bottles of the stuff. Tried the genny a few times and about an hour later fired right up.
This weather its not too nice to be here, but we can watch people and wander about Wally world a few times. It was amazing to see all the groups of construction workers wandering about the store, too miserable to work, and looks like they were Christmas shopping. Almost everybody buying ice scrapers. They work much better than trying to scrape your windows with a credit card or finger nails, as I noticed some people trying to do.
this trucker just pulled in off the hiway |
snow and ice |
our towed |
a truck in the parking lot |
we ate 1/2 of that chicken |
even the tater wedgies were good too |
Now that was our day, different, cold and not travelling in this weather, but we enjoyed it too. Like I have always said ,our plans are made in jello. Maybe tomorrow we move on down the road and maybe not. Does it matter to us ? Not much we will get there when we get there. Now where is there? Not sure yet but we will know when it happens.
Any who, glad you could stop by again to see where we are, not our original plan but is fun anyway!

Like you said the cold air is heading our way but you would have been warmer here today. Hope everything clears up for you soon. Be Safe and Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteIt's about time.
It will get better soon. Not sure how soon but it will.
DeleteStaying put is a good thing when the weather is lousy. I really worry about that ice on the roads. So it's good to know you are staying put and staying safe.
ReplyDeleteDon't like ice either, so here is pretty nice.
DeleteWow...that was some change in the weather! I've been reading about the ice storm on the weather channel...so sorry you got caught up in it! Hope tomorrow is better.
ReplyDeleteOh well we in no hurry to get anywhere will see what tomorrow brings.
DeleteI'm glad you aren't moving and I certainly never would want to say I warned you ... but I'll say it anyway. It sounds like you have everything you need without getting back on that highway. I hope you sit it out until that nasty weather moves along.
ReplyDeleteWe will stay as long as it takes.
DeleteStay safe and warm you two. We skeeeeedaddled out of Lake Medina, north of San Antonio to avoid the weather. A stay of 14 days, turned into just 4 days. We now in Rockport, a tad north of Corpus Christi, cool but still above freezing.
ReplyDeleteWe enjoy the Rockport area too, the cold front will pass and all will be good again.
DeleteWow, never thiught heading south could be that cold!
ReplyDeleteNorth Texas does get some weather in the winter and we get to enjoy it too.
DeleteHard to believe it's warmer in southern Ontario then Texas.
ReplyDeleteHard to believe but true!
DeleteWell, I would imagine the RV only has "summer tires", which was all we had on ours. If I needed to move it in the winter, unless the storage area was pretty much clear of snow, she'd just sit there and spin.
ReplyDeleteNot much can be done about Mother Nature. We're back to near the freezing mark here this morning, but that's to be expected.
On a completely different note, I really like your hat storage idea. Those tiny sun visors aren't really all that effective at blocking the sun anyway, so storing hats is a great idea.
Hm, I wonder if Walmart even sells ice melter?? Doubt it.
Even winter tires will not do much on 1/2 inch of ice everywhere.
DeleteThey did have some ice melter on the sidewalks at the entrance to the store.
Wow what a change! You two keep warm. Hope this spell goes over in a hurry!
ReplyDeleteWe have 46F (8C) this morning and thick fog. It is so dark outside at 9:30 that all the lights have to be turned on inside. Weird weather for sure.
We are toasty warm, so thats not a problem.
DeleteYikes! I'm glad you are both safe and warm. Stay put until the weather clears and enjoy the "free camping!" :-)
ReplyDeleteSafe and warm is the plan, looks like we could be here until sunday!
DeleteCuddle up ;-))
ReplyDeleteYeppir we will, we are all is good!
DeleteI don't envy you one bit. I don't think I'd want to be in a Walmart parking lot, of course moving wouldn't be an option either. I'm not even going to tell you the temperature here.
ReplyDeleteWe are used to dry camping so its not a big deal to be here. Yes I know you are having great weather, enjoy it!
DeleteThe weather has gone loco in the US. Good to know that you are safe and being smart by staying put. If ell sorry for all the air travellers whose trips are being wrecked.
ReplyDeleteMost flights around here are cancelled and roads closed so we just enjoy this parking lot, a change of pace.
DeleteIt's not sounding too nice there, I won't even tell you what the temperature is here in Namibia, Africa. Hope tomorrow warms up for you!

Thanks Ruth, but tomorrow looks colder, Sunday we should be good to though.
DeleteFrom your pictures, it sure looks nasty there right now. Definitely not Weber Q weather.
ReplyDeleteNope not nice, and I really don't use my Weber Q when in a Walmart for the night.
DeleteWe woke up to -5 Celsius but the sun is warming things up nicely. We'll be riding to Wilcox,AZ, and area soon. Cool temps though....too cold for this far south!
ReplyDeleteYes it is, but hopefully it will warm up soon.
DeleteGood ol Walmart ... I get awfully upset with them over several thises and thats but they have been my lifesaver many a traveling night ... ;)
ReplyDelete28 degrees here in Little Rock ... heading down to 19... Homer (van) is covered in ice..... well, everything is covered in ice. I do not like it. BUT as long as the power stays on ... I want be too grumpy... holding my breath. latest report was 32,000 without power ~ mostly rural but the freezing rain keeps on coming ... your home is weather proof ~ that's really nice.
won't ... I want a lot but I won't be grumpy ... haa... is it Spring yet?
DeleteWe have solar and, generator, power inverter so all is good here. propane heater, furnace, electric heater.
DeleteAbout the same here, we are toasty warm though, dual pane windows and all.
Boy oh boy....I'm happy I'm not down south there. Had a cozy +8C up here, a little rain but not too bad. Stopped raining in the afternoon and I walked the dog. Now, you guys stay warm and hope you'll be ice free soon again. It's cold at the Hopt Springs too.
ReplyDeleteWe hope to be in the Hot springs early January should be good then.
