Where are we today ?
Had a great nights sleep last night, it's nice to have electricity and a full tank of propane, especially in this very cold weather. About 18 f (-8c) last night. Up early as usual and eventually the sun came up, no wind and great for a walkabout the park without 5 layers of clothes, mitts and my wool hat.A bunch of Gambles quails came scurrying out the field next door, it's so much fun to watch them running about in a group |
About 9:30 we decided to hit the road. Got a text from our friends John and Barb at 8:30 they were back on the road. They were stranded on I-20 about 40 miles west of here on the side of the road since noon yesterday, black ice and many accidents.
got on I-20 and looking great |
40 miles down the road things change, but the roads are good. |
foggy and a winter wonderland, almost looks pretty |
love the colorful overpasses here in El Paso TX. |
Welcome to New Mexico, The land of Enchantment |
interesting looking tourist trap |
looks better than snow, but not much |
this was our travel day 321 miles |
A walkabout the parking lot and store then back home. This familiar looking RV and tow dolly pull in beside us. Hey thats the couple that were close to us in Midland Texas for three cold blistery days!
Well had to chat with them for a bit. Ends up they spent the night on the side of I-20 parked right behind our friends John and Barb. Is it a small world our what? Their names are Freddie and Skip from Iowa and they spend the winters in Benson Arizona. Same town as me, Suzie , John and Barb are going to for a week. Different campground but still a small town.
Freddie and Skip pulled in to the right of us. |
Yummy! |
And would like to thank ya'll for stopping on by, have a great Monday, the beginning of a brand new week and more adventures in life.

Glad to see you getting some warmer weather. Benson? It seems everyone is either in Benson these days, just left, or are on their way. Rene and Jeanette have been there for a few days now.
ReplyDeleteWe really enjoy this area and have been either many times just about a week this time.
DeleteWhew...so glad that part of your trip is over! Hopefully, no more freezing temps! Haven't been to Benson...looking forward to your posts!
ReplyDeleteSafe travels tomorrow!
Don't the cold as much as the freezing rain and no sunshine.
DeleteYou guys are pretty darn close to us. We love Benson.
ReplyDeleteOne of our favourite places to visit.
DeleteGlad you got away from the snow...we never ran into any bad weather over 3 years of travelling that route! You have all the luck!
ReplyDeleteThis is our second time in 8 years, guess you got lucky.
DeleteBoeing Vertol CH-46 Sea Knight
ReplyDeleteThanks Barney appreciate the ID. I checked it out and is quite impressive.
DeleteGlad to see you are out of the ice and into some slightly warmer weather. We've had some good times in Benson. And the world gets smaller and smaller all the time the more we travel.
ReplyDeleteIt sure does get smaller thats for sure.
DeleteGlad you are having safe and enjoyable travels...and warmer weather too!
ReplyDeleteYeah looking forward to More Arizona.
DeleteThe weather is better here in Ontario!
ReplyDeleteNow its awesome here, our weather getting better, yours getting worser. We only had three days of this you satill have the whole winter.
DeleteThe good news is you are out of it and it was a great story, especially when it happens to someone else
ReplyDeleteWe thought it was fun too, never know what you will run into living this lifestyle.
DeleteI'm glad you arrived safely. I hope your winter is nice and warm.
ReplyDeleteShould be typical Arizona weather, that we hope for.
DeleteWell gee... you could have seen that winter wonderland had you stayed right here in Glen Rose. Really though, I'm glad you had a safe trip and hope it continues to be. If you have time, you might want to drive down to the Pink Store in Paloma.... great place to eat.
ReplyDeleteWe had enough of that brutal cold. Thanks for the tip of the Pink Store.
DeleteGlad you're there safe and sound. More tales of the road, these being COLD tales. It's warmer here in Livingston, too - 44F outside right now. Hooray. I really don't mind cold, but then cold is relative. For this California girl, cold is anything below 49F! I'm hoping to drive to Houston in my car tomorrow, never been there and would like to at least see the skyline and maybe the Cowboy Museum. Have fun defrosting.
ReplyDeleteLots to see in Houston if you are into big cities, not really our style.
DeleteKeep warm there!
The roads finally thawed enough to move! Good thing. Stay warm, Benson is at high altitude as well.
ReplyDeleteThat's ok we love Benson, sunshine!
DeleteSo glad you're finally out of all that ice. Now none of us have to worry about you anymore. Benson isn't as warm as other areas but at least it's in Arizona and you'll be able to relax for a week.
ReplyDeleteYep we are glad just be here, sunshine and a nice area.
DeleteDang, I'm so sorry you didn't stop in Las Cruces. You could have camped in Chez Wal*Mart and I could have had you both over for dinner! :-(
ReplyDeleteDouble Dang!!!
DeleteNever thought of Las Cruses Walmart, we just wanted to go as far as we could, away from that cold.
Thanks so much for the offer, maybe check out that way in the spring.
Gotta love Camp Walmart. They're the most expensive "campgrounds" we stay in! :c)
ReplyDeleteYep they love us there, nice and friendly they are.
