The Christmas day is done now we can finish winding down this year of 2017. Did get a nice walkabout the park as the sun began to warm things up, and when Suzie was ready about 8:30 we took a trip into Yuma for a few supplies. Back home before 10 and now to take it mostly easy for the rest of the day.nice sunrise this morning |
love the decorations on this site |
nice quiet road back to the canal |
the canal right there, see the fence in the distance? |
the fence all the way across the border |
I made this fresh Cranberry Sauce with Orange Zest, one of our favorites to to go with Turkey or Chicken, for the recipe Click HERE or my recipe blog top right side bar.
so easy to do and so very tasty |
Yes we had a Christmas dinner yesterday with Turkey and ham plus all the stuff, but..
My plan was to cook up this 10.5 lb Turkey I picked up on sale the other day A great deal I could not turn down. It has been thawed out in our fridge for a couple of days so needs to be cooked. And of course because I can do up to a 12 lb bird on our Weber Q 100 this is the way it will be done. Rinsed it off rubbed with Olive oil and my spices all over it . Preheat the Weber about 15 minutes on high, turn down to about 1/3 heat set the Turkey on the grill and close the lid. Lid has to be closed tight and no peaking for at least a couple of hours, Internal temp by the thigh not touching the bone should be 180 F and done to perfection. Turkey on the grill about l:45 plow and slow really does the trick
now this was a great deal |
Then at our usual Happy hour time 3 pm Bill and Patsy joined us and we had some people stop by to say HI! Another rv couple from Alberta Canada that are spending their first winter here in the southwest from Alberta, Dave and Cheryl also fellow Bloggers, Check them out HERE . Not sure if they should stop or not, but heck we outside anyway so at least stop and say hi!
Dave and Cheryl |
Eventually time to wrap up Happy hour, our Turkey about done taters soon be ready (garlic mashed) and the gravy to prep. Bill and Patsy were joining us and they were bringing cooked carrots and dressing as well as and Apple crisp and Christmas cake that they had made.
turkey was perfect on our Weber Q |
I let it rest for a while then carved it up |
now this sure did the trick tonight, and of course lots of leftovers a pot of soup tomorrow |
Happy campers we are |

Thanks guys.
DeleteIt was a great day, decent weather, great people meeting new Bloggers and to share this turkey dinner with our good friends.
Loved you Crisp and Christmas cake too.
You are the master of the Q, George! You can't beat fresh made cranberry sauce. Cheryl makes it the same way you do. Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteSuch a treat for us to meet you and Suzie in person. Hope our paths cross again soon.
Thanks Dave this weber Q is an awesome grill, can do just about anything on it. Love that cranberry sauce made that way so tasty.
DeleteSure glad that you stopped by for a visit and was great to finally meet you guys as well. Enjoy your travels and all the new adventures you will have.
Good looking meal - we just grilled burgers.
ReplyDeleteThanks Larry,
DeleteBurgers is good too, but I git a deal on this turkey I could not turn down.
How nice that you made some more new friends! Everything about your dinner looked awesome! Turkey grilled to perfection and everything else just finished it out! Beautiful sunset!
ReplyDeleteThanks guys it was fun meeting new Rv'ers in the first winter to the southwest, they have so many questions.
DeleteAnd other Turkey dinner is something we love.
What an excellent day. Good food, good friends, new friends, sunshine, warm weather. Doesn't get much better than that. Dinner looked excellent as usual.
ReplyDeleteThanks Deb it was a wonderful day we really enjoy meeting another new couple and of course a tasty turkey dinner.
DeleteGreat looking Turkey. Going to look forward to your recipes for all of the leftovers.
ReplyDeleteThanks Peter was excellent, I will make soup and not sure what else yet.
DeleteLunches with just some cold turkey is wonderful.
Doing another chicken on the grill today ... maybe I'll try a turkey! THAT looked like an amazing meal and how nice you shared it with new friends.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are making good use of Your Weber Q, Chicken is alway goo and the Turkey wonderful as well. This 10 lb Turkey took about 2.5 hours ,mostly on low,
DeleteThanks for the description of BBQing the turkey. I have never made one on the BBQ but would like to try one day probably when we are RVing. Have you ever stuffed the turkey too or is it not advisable on the grill? The cranberry sauce you made I would like on chicken as well and on Swedish meatballs.
ReplyDeleteYour welcome Marlene, love doing birds this way. Make most everything on our Weber Q. I don't like to stuff a turkey or chicken at any time it increases the cooking time and I personally don't advise it, but then each to their own. The cranberry sauce is wonderful with about anything especially with the orange zest in it really adds a lot of flavour.
DeleteAnother perfect day with good friends and all the trimmings. A low and slow BBQ is definitely an art, that you have mastered.
ReplyDeleteIt was a wonderful day and more turkey is always welcome in our house. Low and slow wrks really wonderful on a Weber Q, But you need to keep the lid closed as much as possible. With the lid closed it works like and oven as soon as you open it to peak you loose most of that heat right away.
DeleteMy next turkey dinner will be done on the Weber! That looks so good! Merry Christmas and a Happy new Year!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas and Happy New year to you guys as well.
DeleteWe love doing our birds this way always Crispy and moist inside .
Sounds like another wonderful day. Great sunrise and then another meal shared with friends which looked delicious.
ReplyDeleteIt was another wonderful desert day, and a tasty meal with good friends.
DeleteSome of the best meals are those shared with friends. :c)
ReplyDeleteThat is so true !
DeleteHey George - we got ourselves a Weber Q for Christmas :) Now I have to learn how to use it, and then follow your cooking style :)
ReplyDeleteHey Sandy that is wonderful I am sure you will love it. Enjoy some great meals now!
DeleteLooks delicious! So nice to share with friends.
ReplyDeleteThanks Stew sharing a meal with friends is always fun.
