Wind almost took us away, but we survived better than our awning !

Where are we today ?
clic on a pic to enlarge it
This morning started off cool then got much cooler for the rest of the day. Early morning walkabout not too bad (light drizzle) then about 7:50 am gonna head out for a few supplies. Well all of a sudden we had a major wind just come through here. I was inside and the coach was rocking major. I headed outside quick just in time to see our very secure , lowered awning take off . Ripped, torn bent and the fabric flapping over our roof ! Only took seconds !
Neighbours Gerry and Melinda saw huge flag pole and huge pine tree almost lay sideways and they heard  a very loud noise. They thought they lost them, The loud noise was our awning being removed from a secure spot, poof it was gone!
This morning for a few minutes that flag pole and tree was almost
horizontal !
this was our awning the other day
Sorry  not pics when we were fighting with the awning.. It wa cold wet and raining. Gerry ran over to help, Suzie texted  our friend Rob and he dashed over, We did manage to secure a few things but the awning is now toast! And it was almost like new !
Thanks to the help from Gerry and Rob we are good, but 2 sites down 2 young ladies, first night in their trailer they fought with theirs. Got thats down and secured, probably toast too. But no more damage done is a good thing.
the wind is playing havoc, over the roof and off
making a heck of a noise
on the roof
down the side over the door
small damage from the support bar
Eventually we called our insurance company and they said we could remove the remainder of the flap, take pics and an adjuster would call us on Monday. Not an emergency so no big deal.
now our coach is NAKED
stored the parts here
these 2 springs held our awning down,
the top one took a major hit
Later today Tucker stopped by and gave Suzie a wonderful doggie fix Think that made our day all better!.
Suzie got to hug Tucker
she better now
Today miserable outside as predicted. I had planned to do a cauliflower Pizza crust pizza today Is a bit time consuming but do have the time. Not gonna sit outside. The revised recipe is here  or on my recipe Blog top right sidebar. I have tweaked it a bit.
took longer but was awesome
tasty, healthy and did the trick
There ya go we had an eventful day and may be costly, depending on our  insurance. But we are good, nobody hurt so all the rest is not a problem,
Thanks for stopping by our summer will soon be here!

Check out the interactive map below to see where we have been this summer

  1. What a bummer! I am so sorry about your awning. Those winds sure do come up in a hurry. Hey... Now I'm gonna have to check out your revised cauliflower crust version. I just made the original yesterday for the first time. We love it! I don't know how your revised version can beat it, but I'll be checking it out soon. Thanks!

    1. This wind just came out of nowhere. Never seen it like this before. The recipe I just increased some cooking times and more ingredients an stuff. not much different.

  2. Pizza looks great! Gotta try it... Hard to imagine the wind can come up that fast! We always bring the awning in when we are not there and at dusk, all too often the wind can come up quick in the southwest desert. But you were there! Scary, glad only the awning was hurt.

    1. The pizza is excellent.
We very seldom open our awning in the southwest just for that reason, but have never seen it come up that fast here. And we always watch the weather and wind forecasts, this wind was not predicted at all.

  3. Sorry to hear about your awning! I think it was last year here at the park that two different units lost their awnings as well. They were away and had left the awning down and a big wind came up much the same as you. Hope you insurance comes through for you.

  4. Holy .....that must have been really scary. I have heard of such sudden winds before but never experienced one. Good thing you have insurance. You still eat cauliflower? Man, that stuff is soo expensive here like 5 bucks a head. I'd rather buy a steak.

    1. We can expect those winds in the southwest, but never like this before.
Picked up this fresh cauliflower the other day $1.49 on sale just had to have it. I won't buy it when it is too expensive either.

  6. Sorry to hear about your awning, have seen that happen before with sudden wind. Glad no one was hurt that's most important. We were drive up there today but with this weather, I think we will stay put. We will get together sooner or later this summer. Take care, see you whenever.

    1. We have seen it happen many times to other people as well, this was a freak wind gust that only lasted a few minutes.
Would be nice to get together again sometime, for sure.

  8. Oh no! We've had to fight putting our awning away before when winds came out of nowhere. I guess we've been lucky that it hasn't blown away too. Thank goodness the insurance covers it.

    1. We have usually got it away in time before, but no warning at all with this sudden wind.

  9. Oh no! Not fun at all. Good that you had friends close by to help. Good luck with the insurance. Just curious, did you have it staked down to the ground as well?

    1. Yeah Gerry is across from us and saw it take off so came out to help and Suzie Texted Rob he was here right away as well.
It was staked down on each end with 24 inch rebar, heavy duty straps and springs and as low as it would go on one end the other end just high enough to open the door. The one end pulled the rebar out of the ground.

  10. A squall like that packs a serious punch. I got knocked down once on lake Ontario in my 27' sailboat. The mainsail just tore in half. It only lasted about 30 seconds, but can do a lot of damage.

Gladly your Weber Q is still standing! And you're both fine.

    The pizza looks great!

    1. Thanks Peter, it only lasted about 30 seconds here as well. And did the damage, at Weber Q survived though and that's a good thing.
      Pizza yummy.

  11. The wind has been gusting on and off since we set our jacks so our awning has stayed rolled up. Sorry you had that happen but glad there was no serious damage and you are both Safe. You really are not that far from Lake Huron at your present location.
    Pizza looks yummy.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

  12. Glad only your awning took the hit and not you. You've got a lot of sail area in those hats you wear! :cD

  14. Well, you and Shadowmoss are both in the market for a new awning! We almost lost one in Las Vegas in a gust of wind a few years ago. It ripped it off the side of the motorhome and slammed it down on the roof, putting a nice square hole in the roofing. It is never fun having these things happen but if the insurance pays the majority of the damage it is not so painful.

    1. We got lucky no damage other than the awning was trashed.
