"The Last Hurrah" Palm Springs Follies..

Where are we today ?

Today we need to move on down the road to Cherry Valley Lakes resort only 37 miles. But are on a mission get there, set up, have lunch and be back into Palm Springs by 12:30. No problem we checked into Cherry Valley just after 9 am. had a nice walkabout, lunch then head on into Palm Springs, 34 miles.
37 miles today

This is a nice campground with two drawbacks. Small close sites, and Interstate 10 right behind us. But we have full hookups and only $10.00 a night. The location suits us and we only here a week.
our site
Nicely landscaped with a couple small ponds, heated pool and hot tub, large laundry, nice clubhouse that serves very reasonable meals too.
About 11:30 we headed into town for the Palm Springs Follies. This is their last season after running for 23 years. All of the dancers and singers must be 55 years or older and quite a few are a lot older. The oldest female is 78 yrs old! Another 76 and 74 then a few in their late 60's. The oldest male dancer there is 84 years old. And believe me you would not know it from their moves, their looks and their voices. The last show is May 18th 2014, so glad we got to enjoy this great show.
Leila is 78
You can check out their website for The Palm Springs Follies click HERE
We parked in the free parking lot behind Forever Marilyn who is also leaving the area at the end of March this year.
A few of the stars on the sidewalks on Palm Springs Blvd..
The theatre opened at 12:45 for the 1:30 show, with music and old show on the screen to entertain us. Of cours no pictures allowed during the performance, but I did get a few shots inside the old theatre thats was first opened in 1936
Great songs and dancing, quite a few laughs, amazing juggling show and a special guest star Maureen McGovern. She is 64 & 7/12 years old or as she said 18 Celsius.
It was a very quick afternoon from 12:45 until the finale at 4:30 pm with one 15 minute intermission. Such energetic dancing and singing from these seniors that do 9 three hour shows every 5 day work week (closed Sunday and Monday).

after the show
This was a Valentines treat to each other this year, so after a quick exit from Palm Springs we stopped in Beaumont on the way home for dinner at Fisherman's Market Grill, excellent quick service and large portions of perfectly cooked food..
very tasty clam chowder
Maui-maui, brocoli and fries for Suzie
Fish and chips, Caesar salad for me
Both meals excellent and we still got home before it got too dark. A great way to end a fun day.
Thanks once again for stopping by and enjoying the show with us. Hope you have a great day too.

Um. Those two things make it a not nice campground!

  4. Glad you guys had a good time and a great way to finish up your Palm Springs visit, dinner and all. The RV park sounds like a good deal and seems to have some nice amenities to go along.

    1. It is a good deal if you can get by with the small sites and road noise, we can deal with that for a week.

  5. I think Maureen McGovern is so talented. The show sounds like so much fun.

I didn't know Palm Springs had a "walk of fame." I learn something new every day.

    1. The show was very entertaining, as was Maureen, great to see here live. There is quite a few blocks of these on the walk of stars.

  6. I want to know if any of the 70 year old women were wearing the skimpy little outfits!! Nummy on the chowder too unless it was made with lots of bacon.

We've been at that park. What we didn't like is how we had to drive around the back roads to get into it and yet it was on the freeway. There was no easy access unless they changed it.

    1. All the women wore those skimpy outfits from G strings to pasties, you would never know they were in their 70's, dancers all their lives. Amazing how well preserved they were, they look and act like physically fit 20 year olds.

Same way into the park, no easy access.

  7. Boy howdy....I don't know bout nobody else, but I sure do like to ride along with ya to all them places you go. I get all excitis.
Now bout that camp site. For $10 a day, that's a great site....although, them neighbors are camped rather tight in your yard. At that rate, I would camp there too.

  8. Jeanette took in "The Follies" while I was on a golf course, a couple of years back. She loved the show. In fact, she would like to take in the show again before it closes shop this May.

  10. What a wonderful day for the two of you. It's a shame they need to close the show ... maybe it wasn't promoted properly because those dancers are icons. Glad you had FUN

    1. It did well, but the economy lately had attendance's go down the last few years. After 23 years it was time to say goodbye while still in the black.

  11. Too bad they are shutting that Show down... it will be missed. Judy and I never did get a chance to see the Show, now we never will. Maybe something else will soon take it's place...you never know. If you head much further west George, you will soon be swimming in the Pacific Ocean! Enjoy the great weather out there...
