A short very windy travel day, and noticed our windshield wants to fall out!

Where are we today ?
clic a pic to enlarge it
A good sleep here last night in this Flying J very quiet. With over a dozen rv spots only 5 rigs here. It was 34 f at 5 am but good for sleeping. Again no rush to head on out, we can pace ourselves now, so we just puttered around for a while enjoying our morning coffees, few walkabouts here, checking emails etc.
On the road at 9:30 this morning  heading west to Amarillo Texas. Good road and very little traffic. Windy starting to pick up.
Never realized that they grow cotton this far north, or if I did I forgot, we have been this route before.
cotton fields look like snow!
moving right along
Passed another rest area in Oklahoma, that is 4 in 2 days!
now into the Texas Panhandle
As soon as we entered Texas it was foggy for a bit and different scenery.
Not too far into Texas we found a wonderful rest area, also a tornado shelter, very nice.
they have some nice picnic areas here too
look out from the rest area
Moved on down the road to Amarillo Texas and topped up our gas at the Flying J, $2.20 a gallon, and stopped to make a bite eat for lunch. Then heading around Amarillo towards  Clovis New Mexico.  Tumble weeds all day long blowing across the road, when we hit them they just go Poof!
Suzie got a pick of one of many tumbleweeds
here we are in New Mexico, from Oklahoma, through Texas
to New Mexico in a few hours
About 11 am we found we have some very strong winds. 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph. So a little slower going. Head winds and side winds. I knew it was strong when out coach kept gearing down on a flat road  trying to maintain 55 mph.
Finally we arrived at the Walmart in Clovis NM. about 2:30pm. 1:30pm local time . But that was enough driving for today.
We both went into Walmart for a few items and almost got blown away walking into the wind. All over the parking lot tumbleweeds everywhere!
right outside the entrance to the Walmart
more tumbleweeds and remnants too
Now I took a pic of where we are parked away from the store, still windy but was 78 f and in shorts again today, love the heat but not the wind.
While I was checking out things I noticed that the windshield on our coach was wanting to fall out !
not good!
oops'
When I noticed this it was 4:45pm  so quickly got on the phone and call a window place, The Glass Doctor in town. They could not see us until next week. But he was kind enough to recommend a competitor in town Apex. So I called Apex right away, and the Manager J.J.  Said they were right beside this Walmart and he would drop by right after his daughter's soccer game and take a look.
No problem, we can take the coach across the parking lot first thing in the morning, They open and 7:30 am and we will be there. Should not take too long and we can be back on the road. tomorrow.
In the meantime we cooked up a couple of our onion and parsley
 Turkey Burgers from back home
for a tasty supper.
Other than a windy day and our windshield almost falling out we had a great day. Looking forward to another one tomorrow as well. With the windshield bas in place and less wind noise.
Soon time to call it a night , watch a movie and relax for a while. And here it is after 8 pm and still 64 f outside this is awesome !
Glad that y'all dropped by again and hope you had a wonderful day as well.
233 miles today

  2. Did you get a new windshield when you had the others replaced?

    1. We had the dual pane windows repaired because they were foggy. The windshield is single pane glass they did not touch it.

  3. I stayed at that Amarillo Travel stop a couple of times and it was very peaceful.

    1. It sure looks nice and peaceful, but no need to stop there this time.

  4. I popped out a little early and was born in Clovis instead of back in Texas.

    1. Clovis seems like a nice small town to grow up in.

  5. Same question as Flowergirl: Did they remove the windshield also? Either way you sure got lucky it didn't fall out in that wind. Stay safe, remember you're retired.

    1. They did not touch the windshield, just all the other windows in the coach. We enjoying this winters travels, seeing some different scenery and enjoying the sights along the way, we have over 3,000 miles to travel each way to the southwest and have seen a lot of things still want to enjoy some mores sights.

  6. Good catch on the windshield! That could have been nasty! I was wondering the same thing as Flowergirl.
Safe drive tomorrow after the repair.

    1. Glad that I saw it before that happened. No reason to touch the windshield it is since pane glass.

  7. There always seems to be something that needs attention when RVing. When my rig is sitting beside the house in the driveway, repairs can be put off until. . . . whenever. But when you are on the road, things need fixing immediately.

  8. That is just scary to think about, having the windshield fall off. Thank goodness you spotted it before that happened. Take care you two and continued safe travels.

    1. This side of the windshield has been replaced twice for us, broken and cracks.
He seemed very confident that it would be taken care of right away. We have glass insurance that should take care of that for us. We will find out later today.

  10. You guys sure are making good time from when you left.
Very glad you spotted the windshield as it could have been disastrous if it had fallen out while on the road. Hope it goes well tomorrow at Apex and it doesn't hit your wallet too hard.
    Continued safe travels.

    1. Glad that I saw it in time, but with the age of our coach things do need fixing just part of the lifestyle.

  12. It always seems the rest areas we planned on stopping at have been closed. I think some are seasonal and others are in need of repair or expenses aren't allocated. We rarely travel when gusts are up to 45mph. Glad you had no issues. So, now you're on the road again and hopefully that window got fixed.

    1. We did not have that far to travel in the wind, so what not too bad.
Not fixed yet, still in the shop, it may take a while.

  13. I'm thinking you, like Patsy had your guardian angel with you today, even though u discovered it but the fact that you stopped early before it fell out. Wow..and nice that the glass shop is so close. Back on the road you go quickly! Too bad about the rest areas being closed. Sometimes I think the powers that rule don't realize most of us are happy with just a stop to take care of business and we don't need a fancy rest area. (kinda like the taj mahal schools states think they have to build nowadays)..guess my age is showing..hah

    1. Yes just a place to stop and stretch is good, right off the highway.
Not sure now how long we will be here, but we are comfortable.

  14. I cannot believe you were driving in that wind. We just don't do that because I get way too nervous. A good lesson to be learned - always check over your rig every day. Sure glad you do that and found that windshield issue. Good luck today. Weather is perfect here in AZ.

    1. We did not have that far to go and our coach does handle the wind very well. If it was windy like that all day we would have stopped for sure.
Thanks we will need some good luck to get out of here in good time.

  18. That window? Such a pain in the neck, but thank God you saw it before it fell out on the road. Geez, can you imagine that happening? That's like my rear view side mirror that started shaking and fell out in my hand when I was stopping the rig. Nothing like slowing down on the side of a highway with your arm out the window holding onto your mirror! Of course, mine was a far smaller deal, and would have cost less and caused far less problems, but I was still so happy to have noticed it before it fell out on the highway. Good luck with the repair, I hope you're back on the road quickly. :)
