Where are we today ?

Just taking our time today always up early and after coffee and computing got a few nice walkabouts this morning, then began to secure our coach and get on the road at 9 am.
Headed on down the road through Roswell staying road 380 over the mountains and to I-25 south bound.
It was kinda slow going but we not in a hurry only 226 miles to go today. Mountains to climb, twisty windy roads and a few small villages to go through, Actually very scenic, love these back roads. a lot of times we could not get over 30 mph climbing but the bonus this year was our coach did not overheat at all! Guess the new rad and repairs did the trick. Was not too hot but still in the mid 70's.

nice quiet roads and next to no traffic, awesome |
|
2 lane roads for the next 3 hours |
|
small villages and settlements, kind cool |
|
smokey bear historical park |
Along this route we passed a very interesting looking area,
The Valley of the Fires. Apparently lava flows from many years ago
|
looks like tar that had dried and cracked |
On to I 25 headed south we stopped at this nice New Mexico Rest area for a pit stop and a stretch. Very nice rest area.
Then further down they have wind gust warnings , love the wind socks that they have so you know which way the wind gust will hit you, Not too windy today.
|
wind sock by the yellow sign in the middle, sorry windshield kinda dirty |
|
heading into Elephant Butte our first view of the lake |
|
right through town to the state park |
Our map program said we should be here at 2:14 pm and we were right on time, really surprised with all the slow going we had today. Check in here and found a nice 1st come first served site right down by the beach, 30 amp and water, no sewer, but we have free very good wifi only $14.00 a night think we will hang our here for a bit. We were her a couple of years ago and loved the area.
All set up and relaxing enjoying this 75F weather, overcast but still wonderful.

nice large sites lake right behind us |

the lake right behind us |
We relaxed with our e-reades for a while and our neighbour came over to say hi and offer Suzie a necklace that he made, he had a large pile to choose from. no cost just a friendly camper that likes to share his crafts, not the first time we have run it this, Rv'er's are friendly people. We were introduced to him and his wife and chatted for quite a while, Darn if we can remember their names though. Such a super couple. Maybe this getting old is catching up with us?
|
Suzie had great choice and picked one that she liked |
Then we saw a bunny right behind us just doing what bunnies do, posing for us and eating, too fast for me to catch but did get a picture. Grilled rabbit is very tasty!
|
hi Bunny |
Then we checked out this homemade 5th wheel 2 sites down from us, Very interesting and quite large , never know what we will see in our travels do we ?
|
a very large trailer |
|
look at all the propane bottles he has! |
Soon time to whip up supper so tonight we had a very nice Pork Rib Eye roast on our Weber Q 100, picked up for a good price the other day.
Now added to this a grilled sweet potato and heated up a can of corn. while we were sitting outside enjoying our e readers.
|
a bit of applesauce to go with the pork sure did the trick , more leftovers |
That was our fun day enjoying new scenery and new places, the weather still amazing so no complaints here. We are still outside in the dark, at 8 pm posting this blog and reading and really enjoying the 68F(20c)weather ! What's not to love about that?
Thanks for dropping on by and hope y'all had a great day as well.

Want to learn more about Membership camping
at Rock Glen Family Resort ?
Where have we been this winter ?
New Mexico does get its share of wind. I recognize that stretch of I-25 with the windsock. We stayed near Truth or Consequences right around this time two years ago.
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful area to explore, it was years ago we were here as well.
DeleteYou are getting into areas where we have been, nice to review them through another's experience. Nice update on your adventure, and continued safe travels.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jeff, always like to see other people opinions as well.
DeleteSure did like staying at Elephant Butte State Park last year on our way down. It was on your recommendation also. Have fun and safe travels.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed it here, these NM state parks are wonderful and a great deal.
DeleteProbably about 5 years ago I was there. Hopefully you will post a picture of the boat launch. When we were there last the boat launch went into a massive open field with long grass, because the water level was so low. Geez, that Pork Roast looks good. Yummy with the applesauce.
ReplyDeleteThanks Peter the pork roast was excellent, I will be taking some pictures around the park as I check it all out again.
DeleteBeautiful drive from one park to the other. Elephant Butte was the first New Mexico State Park we ever stayed in, and that made us love the State Parks for camping. I don't remember free wifi..but what a nice plus! Dinner once again looked awesome! Love pork roasts!
ReplyDeleteThanks guys.
DeleteThis was our first NM state park as well, don't remember the free wifi either, but sure is a nice bonus.
Thanks for including the maps. You're in some country I want to explore next year.
ReplyDeleteYour welcome Nancy, this is very nice country to explore.
DeleteHow is the Coach handling the mountains?
ReplyDeleteBe safe
Wonderful, much better than last year, no overheating so far.
DeleteWe love that area and really need to get back there again. Looking forward to your pictures.
ReplyDeleteIt is a very nice area that we can explore on our way to Arizona.
DeleteAs Bill said, we loved that state park and Truth or Consequences as well. Another place we'll go back. New Mexico is another southern state that has beautiful rest areas.
ReplyDeleteI know you will enjoy your time there again.
We will enjoy our time here for sure, just enjoying the weather and walkabouts.
DeleteWe drove that same route last summer on our way to CA. The lava flows were quite something to see, almost looked fresh. Quite a sight to see, never expected that.
ReplyDeleteYes they are quite a sight to see for sure.
DeleteSounds like a nice travel day. While our son was stationed at White Sands, we made a day trip up to Lincoln County and enjoyed the area.
ReplyDeleteIt was a great travel day and Lincoln county very interesting too.
DeleteA good travel day indeed. And a wonderful dinner to finish it up. Getting close to the desert now.
ReplyDeleteIt was a good day, and soon we be in the desert again.
DeleteYou got yourself a really nice site there!! Your weather is truly awesome!! We are heading south today but it is quite chilly and no sun!!
ReplyDeleteDinner looks great!!
It is a very nice site, and weather perfect as well.
DeleteDinner was excellent thank you.
