Where are we today ?
Today in Ontario is Family Day an official holiday, that coincides with President's Day in the USA. Not many stores open so people get to do family stuff. For us today is a hockey tournament in Bratnford Ontario at The Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre This is a huge complex with 4 ice pads, two pools, walking track and exercise facility, Grandson number 4 is playing there all day (he is 7 years old) First game at 9:15 am so I left here at 8 am about an hours drive to Brantford. Suzie can't make it has stuff to do here with her Dad.
Back at the arena and I spotted an indoor walking track so had time to walk a mile before the next event. at 12:45pm
At 12:45 a skills competition with 4 players and one goalie picked from each of about 10 teams. Grandson number 4 was one of the 4 picked from his team. So this was a fun competition to watch these guys play their hearts out and have a lot of fun in the process. Don't know the final outcome as I had and have problems hearing.
But I did have an very enjoyable day with the family and grands, watching the guys have too much fun.
So back home in time to start supper as Suzie was leaving the hospital in Kitchener with her Dad. Tonight trying a new fish recipe with some Haddock we had in the freezer.
This is Canada and it is winter, how do we keep the kids busy and active? Either playing hockey, skiing, snow boarding, tobogganing, figure skating, ice skating, indoor swimming at the pools or all of the above.
A very tasty way to cook some mild white fish, click my recipe BLOG HERE, if you are interested.
under the boiler about 5 minute per side. |
so very tasty , and of course a salad to go with it. |
Also keeps us parents and grandparents busy too spending more money to help the economy.
Thanks again to for stopping by for a peek, glad to have ya'll.
Check out the interactive map below to see where we have been this past Winter.
About the time I started college the university built an Ice Arena. Up to that time about the only ice skating that I remember was on the State Hospital (insane asylum) ponds. But OU (Ohio University... not to be confused with OSU) started hockey as a sport/class. My son (born in 1962) played hockey briefly as a youngster, but somehow it never caught on with him. I've been reading your reports of your grandsons' hockey games... y'all have a lot more enthusiasm than our little Ohio town.
ReplyDeleteEven my son was really into organized hockey in the 1970's and was pretty good at it, that seem like so long ago now. Most have the US town and cities have football where we have hockey, either way it is a good healthy sport for the kids.
DeleteNow that is a great idea...Family Day. Wish it would catch on in the USA.
ReplyDeleteWorks great here, still a holiday, and you have your President's Day holiday at the same time. But here most stores and businesses are closed.
DeleteSetting aside a day to spend with family is what every family should do on days other than holidays. It's good for the kids and even better for the older folks. Glad you enjoyed your day.
ReplyDeleteIt was a wonderful day, for all of us.
DeleteA perfect day! Cheering on the grandkids finished with a delicious dinner!
