Car repair, dry wall repairs, and missed our Grandsons Hockey game

Where are we today ?
In the last week we have added some antifreeze to our car twice and that is not good. I cannot find a leak so its a small one. But small leaks become bigger leaks so off to Pettigrew's Garage in Plattsville 8 am,  and have Dale check it out. Just what I thought water pump. So he checked with his supplier they have one in stock and will soon be there. Told him will be back after lunch if that worked for him, no problem.
Back to New Hamburg I worked on the drywall repair for a bit ran a few errands and Suzie and I had a nice lunch, Dropped her off at her Dad's and back to Pettigrew's Garage for 1 pm. They busy but got me in no problem. Mike got to work on it right away and with his expertise and the proper tools was done in about 90 minutes, I was impressed. Just like he does one of these things everyday. I could have done it but did not have all the proper tools anymore, and these guys are very reasonable.
This is for our 2002 Saturn, with 187,000 drive kms (116,000 miles) on the engine and the first repair we have done other an ignition switch tires and brakes. Its a great car and still has lots of life in it.
new water pump, pretty tiny
its down there some where
there it is installed and ready to reassemble
Job done and I can return to New Hamburg, beautiful country drive, nice and sunny, a pretty mild day with no wind. Not bad for February here in Canada.
looks so wonderful, yes?
Dry wall patches done and sanded, ready to prime
Running out of time so whipped up a spaghetti sauce with some ground beef gotta use up and lotsa fresh veggies. Some tasty pasta and our usual tasty salad, sure did the trick. Also packed up a meal for Suzie's mom in the Hospital she was craving some spaghetti too.
tasty yes
Our plan was to go to Grandson number 4 hockey game in Ayr  about 25  minutes away for 6 pm. Well we left here just before 6 and a hoped to catch at least some of the game. But what do we know? In the small village of AYR Ontario there is 2 arenas. We went to the one we new, found out where the new one was and got there just in time to miss the game. But we did get to visit with our 2 grands and other family members as well, so was not a total loss.
Back home relax a bit and lets call it a night, see what kind of fun we can have tomorrow.

Check out the interactive map below to see where we have been this past Winter.

  1. Sometimes it's really nice to just let someone else with the proper tools do the job. Once in awhile I can talk Jim into that but not most of the time. Glad the car is ready for another 100000 miles.

    1. Not only did I not have the right tools and jacks, and with temps around 0 f no warm place to work on it either.

  2. You definitely need to be sure that anti-freeze is in the car in that weather. No leak is a good leak anyway.

I'm sure your grandson understands that you were there but just couldn't find him.

    1. Even our windshield washer antifreeze was freezing.
At least we got to see them and chat for a bit after the game.

  3. I remember when I first started to drive. My dad made me learn how to change my oil, tire and even water pump. That was the day when an ordinary person could even change their own oil. Now it takes an act of congress to do anything on these modern day cars.

    1. I was repairing cars since I was 12 years old, rebuilding engines and all that stuff, but not anymore thanks, everytime you turn around you need special tools.

  5. Our cars just keep plugging along but every once in a while we have to make a small repair. Yes, it was nice when we could work on them ourselves but they are more like big computers now.

  7. It's been a long, long time since I've changed out a water pump. And it wasn't something I ever really *wanted* to do. Now I leave those kinds of things up to the boys with the tools. And the patience.
And thankfully, we've not had a car of that vintage for a couple decades now. We'll see how long the Merc lasts.
    Keep warm!

    1. Me too, have changed water pumps and even a few engines and rebuilt them, but todays tools and technology has me beat as does the desire and physical dexterity.
