Where are we today ?
Well we are on the road again this morning and all excited. Get to head to Southern Arizona and California, places we really enjoy. Relax here for a bit until the skies clear and on the road at 7:30 this morning. Into Willis and stop at Kroger' gas bar fuel our coach.

the moon setting this morning in Willis Texas |
Good deal here we have their loyalty card and get a discount 10 cents a gallon puts the price at $2.25 a gallon (.68 cents a litre in Canada with a 15 % exchanged rate, compared to $1.07 a ltre there), too bad we only needed 20 gallons, could have gotten up to 35 gallons with the discount. No problem its a great deal.
We headed out taking the back roads and enjoying the drive, no traffic, no trucks and wonderfully good roads. We eventually arrived at our chosen destination, a very nice Texas rest area on I-10 just past Sonora Texas at 4 pm.

349 miles today |
We are loving these fuel prices thats for sure.
|
excellent roads |
Small Texas towns are wonderful and so scenic.
|
Train coming through town we just waited it out |
Next big city was Austin Texas, no problem saturday, not much traffic and was a breeze. These amazing bridges and overpasses we would not want to do during rush hour, but today was great. travelling on the weekends is perfect.

going through Austin Texas |
|
next, Texas hill country, wonderful scenery |
|
Stonewall Texas |
Then right through downtown Fredericksburg and very busy German heritage tourist town not unlike Kitchener/Waterloo back home. Crowds lining the streets.
Now onto I-10 heading west Our Destination today is the Texas Rest area just past Sonora Texas. A convenient stopping spot for us right on time at 4 pm. Travelled enough today. Get out stretch again, walkabout, have a cold beverage and whip up supper. Tonight a Turkey Pot pie. So easy and quick to do when on the road. For the recipe click
HERE. Just added a small salad and hit the spot, leftovers for tomorrows supper as well.

|
sure hit the spot today |
|
we even had a not too bad of a sunset as well. |
Was a perfect travel day, not too hot or cold not much wind and very little traffic. Making good time, more miles than we like to do in a day, but we are a couple weeks behind where we would like to be. But nothing that we can't do. We have travelled this route many times and seen most of the sights over the years so not a big problem
Thanks again for stopping by, hope you had a wonderful day as well.

You sure are making time. Gas prices will inch up when you hit Arizona. You're probably not going to see it below $2.40 but I'm crossing my fingers I'm wrong.
ReplyDeleteWe just movin right along, No matter the gas prices still a good deal tbis year everywhere
DeleteLooked like a great travel day enjoyed seeing your pic's. Dinner looked and sounded great for a travel day! wishing you another safe day of travels!
ReplyDeleteThanks guys for coming along.
DeleteWe like to eat well everyday as you know and I don't see a travel day as an excuse not to.
Looks like you're trying to get a PDD award. You don't normally travel that many miles in a day. Glad you had the good weather. It probably made the trip a lot easier.
ReplyDeleteBe Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
Not looking for a PDD award, just want to move along. They are longer travel days than we like but still doable. And still stop at a decent time to make supper and relax.
DeleteNow you are in the easy rolling territory. I-10 on westward is always a gentle and easy drive for me. Be safe.
ReplyDeleteYes, from here on its an easy drive, but not much to see so will just keep moving long.
DeleteAmazing gas price! We also like the Sonora rest areas - well, most of Texas rest areas really - they are very good. Too bad they seem to have taken the promised wifi out of them. Ahhh - I sure do miss Fredricksburg. Looks like a great travel day! Western Texas for tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteThe Wifi is here but has not worked for a few years, we used to use it in the past. Then tomorrow just movin' along.
DeleteThat's a whole lotta miles you drove today. I wouldn't be able to drive that many anymore. Never stayed O/N in a rest area. I guess I wouldn't feel safe.
ReplyDeleteWe drive a bit then stop at the rest areas and stretch, works for us. We don't mind the Texas rest areas well lit up and not too big.
Deleteah nice seeing familiar scenes... I love the Hill Country and I have never ... ever .. seen Austin without outrageous traffic. WOW do you know how to pick the times ... and well, yes ... rush hour is beyond ... I think Austin is listed as one of the worst traffic cities ~
ReplyDeletegreat looking supper as always!
It is great country side to enjoy and we like to pick our times to go through the large cities. Wanted to spend a bit of time around Austin, maybe another time. Arizona is calling our name.
DeleteYou are good at sniffing out the gas deals.
ReplyDeleteWe just take them as they come and we have been pretty lucky so far.
DeleteBeautiful country here to explore. Yes west we go.
ReplyDeleteThe recipe is so quick easy and tasty, enjoy.
Doesn't matter how fast or how long you drive, sometimes Texas feels like it never ends! ;c)
ReplyDeleteYou are so right!
DeleteYou clearly have good reason to travel to to the southwest. The weather right now is second to none. In Yuma, the temperatures average in the mid to high 70's.
ReplyDeleteSounds just about perfect for us.
DeleteI'm glad you were able to move on to your destination. That means ma is doing better. :)
ReplyDeleteShe is holding her own at the moment.
Deletewhere are you two headed in the west?
ReplyDeletePilot Knob California for a couple weeks.
DeleteWith several visits to a daughter in the SA area and one Texas RV trip, it is one state I definitely feel comfortable driving the back roads. We really like the Hill Country and spent a few weeks during November in San Marcos a while back. Love the chicken fried steak from some of the local places.
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful country in most of Texas.
DeleteMe not fussy on the chicken fried steak though.
