Where are we today ?
We had a pretty decent sleep last night at the rest area and were ready to go this morning. So coffees, computing etc. Just waiting for the sunrise (don't travel in the dark, to much road kill).
So 7:45 we on the road . It's so nice at the rest area, we all hooked up and ready to go only about 20 seconds from the interstate.
|
483 miles today ! WOW |
Now getting on the interstate here is a breeze. Don't need Suzie to navigate today she can relax, compute, have a snooze , walkabout the coach, whatever she likes. All I do is follow I-10 (forever it seems like). Not much to see but we can make good time. The speed limit is 80 mph (128 kmph) just set the cruise control on 66 mph. Our coach runs good and we get 6.7 mpg instead of 7 mpg but we do make good time. Traffic passing us like we are standing still. Bonus is we have the Sirius Satellite radio, tunes from the 60's all day long, even switch over for a while to some Christmas carols as well.
But really not much traffic and very few trucks, Sunday is a good travel day.
|
many hours of this scenery |
There is a few curves in the road, just to make it interesting, couple small mountains and small towns to glance at, but I-10 here in Texas just goes on forever. We have travelled this route many times and seen the sights that we want to see.
|
thats the speed limit 80mph |
|
a few sights to see, been there done that. |
When we reached this area we remembered this same day last year in the same area only were were on I-20, coming from Midland Texas.
We left Midland Texas after being stranded in a Walmart there for 3 nights. Freezing rain, black ice, snow, sleet and very cold temperatures. If You have been a follower for a while you will remember, our you can click on this LINK and move back a few days. The weather was brutal.
Further along today we changed time zones, now into Mountain time, we gained and hour!
|
nice overpasses in El Paso Texas |
But this particular Sunday they decided to close the Interstate for road work in El paso Texas. But no problem we at home and enjoyed the 3 mph crawling along for about 40 minutes. Then resumed our travels.
|
Will be nice when its all done |
Our destination today was the Flying J in Anthony Texas to fuel up and maybe stay the night. But it was only 3pm our time. But now only 2 pm in this time zone. Hmm..... Fuel up good price again here, but we really don't need to stop yet do we? It's only 2 pm. The roads are great, not much traffic, no rain and no wind. So lets carry on. Plus we now we have road music on our satellite with cousin Brucie, so we can now just boogie along and that's we did.
Our next option is the Walmart in Deming New Mexico, only another 83 miles and we are doing good. Travelled the whole day, stopped at every rest area along the way, walkabouts, exercise and drink lotsa water, we are good to go, feel like a million dollars, so lets go!
|
love the fuel prices still |
New Mexico the Land of Enchantment , yes it is!
|
Here we come New Mexico |
Passed by Las Cruces Rest area but it is heading eastbound. So glad to see that the Roadrunner has been refurbished and back in place. (he was not there last year). Gonna have to stop by and visit him in the spring if we can.
|
This Roadrunner has been here for years, love to see him/her |
Actually stopped at the Walmart in Las Cruces to make a phone call to daughter number 2. She was visiting with Ma (her gramma) at the hospital. Ma is in isolation again with an infection. This is the first time in a few weeks that we have been able to actually talk to Ma directly. She does not want a phone in her room. She is doing as well as can be expected. Thanks Jess so much for the call we really did appreciate it!
Now we arrived at the Walmart in Deming NM about 5:20pm (4:20pm local time) so still daylight, got to the RV parking area checking in with security here and began supper. So easy preheat the oven, 250f for put in the leftovers about 20-30 minutes while I make a salad.
|
here we are with a few other rv'ers |
Before we know it we were sitting down to a tasty meal, really hit the spot, after a long but easy travel day.
|
did hit the spot |
Tomorrow now we have short travel day to Benson Arizona, want to get a few things done there then on to Winterhaven (Pilot Knob) California for a couple weeks, at least thats our plan.
Thanks again for the visit and hope your day was wonderful too.
Tonight posted by George
Check out the interactive map below to see where we have been this Winter.
Glad to see another good travel day for you both. Great you were able to speak with your Mom and hope here infection clears up quickly. Wishing you safe travels to Benson tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteEverything just went so smooth today was wonderful.
DeleteWe know your route well. El Paso can be a nightmare for sure. Glad you made it on to Deming and that definitely was a long drive for the day. Like you, when we're traveling through it's so much easier to stay at a Wal-mart or something similar because the next morning you're already ready to go.
ReplyDeleteThese one night stops are so much easier, when you are ready to go in the morning, just turn the key and go.
DeleteWe are just missing you two. We leave Pilot Knob Tuesday Morning. Safe Travels Glad you got to speak to your momma
ReplyDeleteSafe travels to you guys too, Maybe we see you at Catalina spa.
DeleteGlad you had a nice chat with your mother and hope she's better soon. Shucks, I hope you at least waved at me on your way through Las Cruces! ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Cheryl we did wave but did not see you outside.
DeleteThat's a route we've traveled a lot too.... like you, we look for the familiar things like that Roadrunner up on the hill. Glad you got to talk with your mother.... bet that made her day as well. Looks like you were way south of us when you traveled through Texas...
ReplyDeleteWe had originally planned on stopping in Glen Rose, but decided instead to head west now.
DeleteWe have traveled that way many times too...it's a great day when all goes well!
ReplyDeleteYes a good travel day is wonderful.
DeleteIt was nice to be able to talk to ma for a bit.
ReplyDeleteThat was one long day for you, especially with a delay - six hours is about my limit. I've never driven out in west Texas, but I can believe it is pretty boring.
ReplyDeleteIts a long drive, good roads thats why the speed limit is 80 mph. You can see for miles and miles.
DeleteWhat is your hurry? I know there isn't anything new to see along that stretch. Have you tried the audio books? We wouldn't be without them.
ReplyDeleteNo hurry just want to make up for lost time ansd enjoy some warmer weather.
DeleteThe audio books don't work well when driving with my hearing aides. At least the radio we have some good tunes even if i can't understand all the words.
Bummer, you stopped just short of 500 miles and missed the Gold Level in the PDD Driving Club. However, since you went over 400 miles (way over) you've attained a solid Silver Level. You can hold your head up proudly! :c)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the solid silver. These are not our normal travel days, but it was going so well, and was cold there so we just kept on going.
DeleteClearly a great travel day. You are making good time.
ReplyDeleteHope your mom's health condition improves.
Now in Arizona and lovin' it,
DeleteFor Ma its one day at a time right now.
Being in Midland is miserable enough. It would be just about unbearable with rain and sleet!
ReplyDeleteWe travel that road many a time. I stay awake so I can poke Paul ever so often. Don't want the driver dozing off.
Yep Midland is not a great place especially with all the ice.
DeleteNo problem staying awake, tunes blaring away.
HOLY CRAP ! 483 Miles ! I think that even beat my Brother's record when he drove across the Country with me a few years ago. Of course me nagging at him that it was time to pull in lowered the miles he would have driven in a day.
ReplyDeleteIt was a good travel day, like I said every rest area, walk, stretch, no wind, light lunch, and not much traffic went really well, no problems with Suzie either.
