Where are we today ?
We took it easy yesterday and our plan today was to wander over to Los Algodones Mexico. Only about 10 minutes away. A bit cool this morning but still gonna be a nice day. So about 9 am we hopped in the car and we paid our $6.00 to park and wandered into Mexico. No check points just walk over the border too easy.
We like to get here early and just take in the atmosphere. Chat with the vendors , always in your face. Some people find it annoying but I actually enjoy these people trying to sell you something. They always have a line, "You from Canada? special discount" "You must be French if you from Canada" "Almost Free today" "Come looking thats free" "Buy your Lady a nice necklace" "Wanna Buy my sister?""I have something you don't need, good price", "Free dental checkup or half price only 20 bucks" and the comments go on and on. They are all friendly and we answer it no" Gracias", Maybe later, not today, still part of what we enjoy here. Stop and look at something and wow they are all over you, then if you want it negotiate, your price, if not walk away.
Nothing we need our want but still is a fun outing.

Always love visiting the square where the artists are doing some amazing artwork, on anything you want, great prices too.
|

I got new glasses here about 3 years ago 2 pair $69.00 (trifocals) still using the first pair. Work great.
Dental work? Great prices as well.
|
prescription Glasses, good deals |
|
some wonderful artwork too |
Now a few vendors on the street selling fresh shrimp,(huge) and good prices too.
|
look at the size of these shrimp |
On our way to the border picked up a pound for $10.00 about 1/2 of them for supper tonight. Another line from the vendor "Mexican cooler, free ice!" That a plastic bag full of ice for our shrimp. They do the same if you buy a 6 pack of beer, in a plastic bag and fill it with ice.
|
hair cuts good prices too |
By 10:30 we saw what we wanted and decide to stop by the food court that is located kind of in a back alley, its Huge. Ww have been here before and the service and food is pretty good, very reasonable prices as well.
|
bar not open until 11 am but thats ok |
|
Suzie had a Mexican omelette |
|
my Mexican eggs, salad, refried beans, tortillas and salsa |
Including a large bottled water, breaky came to $8.00 pretty decent price.
After here stopped and picked up the shrimp, and a bottles of Creme Agave Liquor. Nobody at the border crossing so was a 2 minute crossing. Gotta love it, we have spent hours in that line for US customs years ago.
Back home by 11:30 and now we have the rest of the day to relax and walkabouts here. Just the way we love to explore.
|
Our Roadrunner came back to visit on our Patio |
Just an great afternoon, some sun but mostly cloud cover, temps in the high 60's but thats alright to, we can play and read outside with a great view of the desert.
Soon time to prep supper, so I made our salad cleaned a few shrimp and made a couple shrimp kabobs.
|
used 1/2 f these for supper, froze the rest |
|
ready for the Weber Q |
|
just about done |
|
gotta love these huge fresh shrimp |
That was it for a fun day wandering about Algodones, not real Mexico but still gives us a bit of a taste of what we are missing. Then we can enjoy some reading, walking and chatting with this pretty decent weather. Not too cold and none of that white stuff on the ground.
Thanks for joining us here again.

Shrimp look good ! How long are you going to be at Pilot Knob?
ReplyDeleteExcellent shrimp, We are leaving here monday morning for DHS.
DeleteGood looking shrimp. Are you still cleaning them the way I taught you?
ReplyDeleteYep still works pretty good too.
DeleteHey - welcome to Mexico! Ya - great looking dinner - makes me miss our Weber…...
ReplyDeleteThanks, can't imagine life without my Weber Q.
DeleteAlgodonas certainly pulls people across that border. It's probably home to much of the stuff sold at the local markets in Yuma. Love the nice weather but wish it'd warm up just a little more but it's nicer than where we left a couple months ago.
ReplyDeleteA little warmer would be nice, but we will take this for now. Yes we are glad we left when we did too.
DeleteWe'll be headed to Algodones in January. I agree, just a fun way to spend a couple of hours.
ReplyDeleteI assume you will going to the Q as well.
DeleteYes we enjoy the atmosphere.
It will be nice to visit Algodones again. We want to compare it to Progresso.
ReplyDeleteThe weather looks awesome. Glad you are enjoying the good life.
We sure do like living the good life, have not been to Progresso so cannot compare.
DeleteWe have had dental and eye glasses there too. It is so colorful.
ReplyDeleteColorful and interesting always fun.
DeleteDo you have to bring your prescription for glasses or can they make them from you current ones?
ReplyDeleteLast time they did an eye test for free, of I bought glasses from them and made my new glasses from that, or they can make them according to you old glasses as well, worked for me.
DeleteWe haven't been over to Algodones yet in our travels - one of these years we'll have to check it out, I guess.
ReplyDeleteIts an interesting outing that we always enjoy.
DeleteLooks like a well spent morning but I don't care for the high pressure sales pitches. Los Algodones must be the place to go for dental work as several of my blogger buddies have been there with good results.
ReplyDeleteIt is the place to go for dental and glasses, but check out before you go, recommendations from others are always the best choice in our experience. Just get used to saying "no thanks Gracias" and keep walking, even chatting with some of the vendors is fun too.
DeleteI think their favorite line is "almost free". I usually reply "but not quite". It's easy to say no and they really don't push it.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have a problem saying no and like you said they don't push it.
DeleteAh, yes, Algodones is always a test in patience from the street pedlars. They all mean well and it is their way of life. If one does not like the sales pitches, one should avoid Algodones.
ReplyDeleteThe temperatures have cooled a lot. Here in Las Vegas, the temps might have reached the high fifties today. In the last 24 hours, Jeanette and I must have walked 50 miles.....or it sure feels like we walked 50 miles.....LOL. We're getting in shape for Christmas gourmet foods, I suppose!
We have been here enough to know how to deal with the vendors, no problem for us. Yep its cooler but we can still deal with it.
DeleteKeep up the walking is good for you. The feasts will replenish that energy spent.
Haven't been to Algodones yet this year but always enjoy a few hours strolling around there each year. I just keep walking past the annoying street vendors.
ReplyDeleteWe always enjoy wandering around taking in the sites,
DeleteGreat looking shrimp and a great price as well. We have bought almost all our glasses in Algodones over the years. They have always been good. Cool here in DHS as well but the water is warm!
