Where are we today ?
Been here at Pilot Knob Resort for almost 2 weeks and we need to get on the road. We have that itch again. So we will wander on down the road to Desert Hot Springs California. Travel day and we slept in until 6 am, what's the rush? We will get there when we get there.
Another membership park that we enjoy, hot springs and all. Love the area for a while and want to be somewhere for Christmas and New Years, this will do the trick.
|
only 163 miles today |
We will miss the amazing sunrises and sunsets at Pilot Knob but we will be back, I hope!
|
this mornings sunrise at Pilot Knob |
No hurry to leave this morning only about a 3 hour drive and the time zone changes as soon as we leave Pilot Knob. Left here at 10 am but only 9 am in when we got on the road heading west. Took our time enjoying the countryside through the Imperial Sand dunes , El Centro and Brawley and stopped at the rest area by the Salton Sea to stretch and make a bite to eat for lunch.
|
Imperial Sand dunes, we have some great memories camping here with friends a few years ago. |
|
amazing scenery here exploring the dunes |
Heading north of El Centro Ca, thousands of bales of either hay or straw amazing to see.
On the west side of the Salton Sea we noticed the smog over the area of Indio and Palm Springs coming through Banning pass from LA.
|
smog in the air looks like fog. |
Arrived at Catalina Spa Resort about 12:10 pm California time. Checked in and choose our site. One that we like, right inside the gate, nobody beside us and afternoon sun. Checked the electric here as I always do and there was a problem. Told them at the gate and within 5 minutes the electrician was here to rectify the situation. Its a small site but one that we like. Membership park $15.00 a night ( more than we usually pay) with all the things that we will enjoy while here close at hand.
|
inside the entrance but really nice for us |
This is the old lower park but no children allowed in this area. works for us.
|
all set up and relaxing with our e-readers |
|
love the hot tub here it is huge! |
|
Excellent pool as well |
Registered with the office and bought our tickets here for Christmas Dinner, All inclusive Ham dinner, only $10.00 each with all the trimmings., Works for us, for a special day.
|
nicely decorated office |
We even got to relax and chat for a while enjoying this amazing weather here for a while. In the high 70's very nice!
|
looking to Palm Springs at the smog |
|
looking north to the sun shinning on the mountains, much nicer |
Then time to whip up supper, grilled catfish fillets, red peppers and add to a tasty salad, sure did the trick.
|
Love catfish ( love food too! ) |
That was an wonderful travel day, something we really enjoy. New places and new faces works for us. Tomorrow the hot springs and pool, looking forward to it.
Hope you had a good day too and thanks for stopping on by,

Check out the interactive map below to see where we have been this Winter.
We love Catalina, but aren't members. How long have you been a member of this park? It seemed prohibitively expensive if you didn't plan to use it at least a month a year or more. We get our two or four days with PPA in the past and now I think we have to listen to the spiel for an hour to get four days. I love the lower park as well, older quiet, and close to my favorite pool.
ReplyDeleteWe have a Coast o Coast Membership we have had for 15 years allows us to camp at over 200 resorts for $10-15 dollars a night up to two weeks twice a year.
DeleteThanks so much George. I didn't realize it was Coast to Coast. We had a membership there early on but let it go because we like to be out and about too much, however with our love of Catalina, it might be something we want to do, but only if we could pick Catalina as our home park.
DeleteYour welcome Sue, worth checking out resales on line, never know what you will come up with.
DeleteEnjoy the DHS area George, by far one of my favourite areas to visit and stay in. Love the blue sky there!
ReplyDeleteThanks, it is an area we enjoy too.
DeleteI think we are going to do a Coast to Coast membership in the up comming year. Looks like it will pay for itself since we are full timers now.
ReplyDeleteWe have three different memberships, and saves us thousands every year. This park has to be one of the nicest, in the system. We just camp where the parks are. And love to move every week or two.
DeleteYou can pick up a resale membership on line real cheap too.
George - Looks like a great place to celebrate Christmas and ring in the New Year. Enjoy and Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThanks you all the best to you guys as well.
DeleteWe do love this area.
You are now in our most favorite part of the world. JEALOUS, JEALOUS......
ReplyDeleteWe do really enjoy it here, too bad you did not make it this year.
DeleteJust when we were ready to pack up and head your way, you move. Hope to meet you somewhere this winter.
ReplyDeleteWe don't stay in one place very long, I am sure we will meet up with you at some point this winter, after we leave here we will begin heading east again.
DeleteGlad you had a safe trip and are enjoying your location.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the warm weather because after Christmas the temps are really going to drop back home.
Be Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
We always enjoy these temperatures, like you said much better than back home.
DeleteLooks like a good spot to spend the holidays, especially since I know you are not dreaming of a white Christmas - you've likely had more than enough. Rather than getting the itch to move on, I hate to pack up and move so I would not get as much benefit from full timing as you guys do - experiencing many places and new people.
ReplyDeleteSpent a Christmas here few years ago and enjoyed it, love the area.
DeleteWe have always had the hitch itch, and like to keep on the move.
George, that looks like a park we would like to try sometime. I wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I also hope we run into you this winter.
ReplyDeleteThanks guys, so many nice parks to enjoy, we do enjoy it here too.
DeleteLooks like a wonderful place to spend the holidays. One question...don't you miss the snow on Christmas day? lol
ReplyDeleteHa, ha miss the snow? You have to be kidding. All we need to do from here is look up at the mountains and we can see it, or we could take a drive up there and get right into it. But that's not going to happen.
DeleteLooks like you found (another) happy home. If those folks find out what a good cook you are they'll be having you fix the Christmas dinner!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sharon, but been there, done that, I kinda like to let them take care of it for a change now.
DeleteSunshine and a hot tub, what's not to love? Now that you're in a no children area, does that mean you have to behave and act your age??? :cD
ReplyDeleteNope not likely, I don't look like a child do I !
DeleteBack to the good spot where we met you last year. Catalina will be a nice holiday stop.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas.
We do enjoy it here, for a couple weeks and works for us over the holidays.
DeleteYou Guys have a Merry Christmas too.
Looks like you are all set to enjoy a great location and wonderful weather. Don't you feel guilty at
ReplyDeletehaving it so good when it's not so nice back home?
Feel guilty?
DeleteHmmmm, not at all.
Thanks for stopping by today to say hi. sorry we weren't set up yet. We got the other two chairs out now. Joe is flying out on Saturday. So I'll be stopping by now and then to say hi to you two.
ReplyDeleteGlad to catch up with you again, looking good.
DeleteEnjoy your stay at that great Park.
ReplyDeleteOh we will for sure.
