Where are we today ?
So quiet here at the Deming New Mexico Walmart and about 16 rv''s here. So scattered around but really supposed to park in this one area, Security here is 24 hours and very friendly guy he was.
We are in no hurry today so a casual walkabout the parking lot and the store, picked up a couple items we needed. Had our coffees, and computing done, secure the coach and on the road by 8:10 am.
A very nice easy drive, good roads, not much traffic, no wind and sunshine on our backs. We can take it easy now that we are here in the Southwest.

only 169 miles today |
|
a few rv's here this morning in Walmart |
Now heading down Deming's main street to I-10. It is a nice New Mexico small town.
|
Back on I-10 heading west, easy drive |
|
we know we are in the desert when we see these signs |
|
desert and mountains, love it! |
|
Arizona finally! |
|
Texas Canyon Rest area tells us we are close to Benson |
Arrived in Benson about 10:30 stopped in to get our propane topped up, and over to Benson Auto Glass to see if they could fix a stone chip in our windshield. No luck, only on Wednesday and Friday they have a guy come in. We leaving tomorrow so will have it looked at down the road.
Across the road checked into Valley Vista another membership resort we enjoy, a bit expensive at $13.00 a night compared to what we usually pay. But that includes cable Tv, we don't usually use , but no point in setting up our dish for one night.
|
this the place |
|
we have a nice huge corner site |
|
not real busy here yet but it will be |
All set up and I wandered into town, only a couple miles, checked for a few deals and stopped to visit Betty at
Cates and Hill Rv I have been dealing with her for years and she really knows her stuff. If she does not have it will be here in a couple days, and very good prices too!
I was looking for replacement straps for our Awning de-flappers. I have checked out at least three Camping Worlds and 2 other rv dealers with no luck. Guess what she had them in stock. Gotta love dealing with her.
Now back home relaxed outside with Suzie for a while enjoying our e-readers. Some cloud cover this afternoon but still at 70 f really not bad at all.
Both the outdoor pool and hot tub are very warm and would have been in them if the sun was shining. Our original plan was to spend a week or two right here, but those plans changed. Less time here and we will be back into where we want to be. Back in this are in the spring most likely.
|
excellent hot tub and pool, very warm |
|
our first Sagauro Cactus is always here |
Now just putter around for a bit, enjoy reading then a real treat for us that we really enjoy when we are here. No cooking tonight gonna pick up some broasted chicken right here next to the campground at Junction Express. Gotta be the best we have had since Anna Maes in Ontario. We are regulars here whenever we pass through the area.
|
Junction Express |
The trick here is to order it fresh made and we do. I walked over about 4 pm and places our order. Gonna pick up at 5:30 fresh made and hot, ohhh soo good. Not so good for our healthy eating lifestyle, but we occasionally wander off it.
|
chicken fries and coleslaw |
After supper walkabout shows a couple neighbors with their Christmas lights all lit up. tos the season. Almost wish we were here this Saturday, Downtown Benson is doing a Christmas Bazar on main street and light parade. But we do have a place we would like to be.
|
right across from us |
A comment yesterday was why the rush? Well we really enjoy Arizona, dry air and warmer temps. Also Audio books are great but with my hearing aides I cannot understand the words when we are travelling (road noise etc..) So The music on our satellite radio works well for both of us. Another reason I do not talk on the phone , cause I really can't understand what you are saying. E mails and texting works great for me as well as reading. Really sucks to loose your hearing due to noise exposure. But such is life, at least I can read lips and get by pretty good with the aides.
Thanks again for the visit, sure is nice to be back in the southwest again.

Ahh....ARIZONA. It should adapt to a new State Motto: The Snowbird-State!
ReplyDeleteYes Peter it sure is.
DeleteLooked like a nice drive today, I much prefer the shorter drives myself. Looks like a nice spot to spend a bit of time at. Your dinner looked delicious broasted chicken is something I have not tried before. Wishing you safe travels to Pilot Knob tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteIt is a nice area and will be back.
DeleteThe broaster chicken is similar to KFC but not fatty or greasy and we think about 10 times better, especially when made to order.
Glad you made it to AZ, I agree the broasted chicken looks so good.
ReplyDeleteWe are glad too. getting here just for this chicken was worth it, now we can enjoy the desert.
DeleteI can't believe you packed on those miles especailly after you get after me for doing so Glad you got where you wanted to be . Sometimes it is worth it:))
ReplyDeleteWith the way our schedule has been this winter we were just making up for lost time. Normally don't enjoy those long drives so much but we were on a mission to get here, the craving for the Broaster Chicken made us do it!
DeleteWe love Junction Express!! Best Chicken Livers ever. I hope you get here to Pilot Knob before we leave tomorrow. We are in 197 just down from the Clubhouse on the right. If you see us still here, please stop and say a quick hi before you go on to your site.
ReplyDeleteWe will look for you hope to catch you, but don't expect to get there much before 4 pm, have a few things to get done today. Maybe catch up with you in Desert Hot Springs.
DeleteAhhhh...Arizona is calling our names too. Enjoy the beauty it offers.
ReplyDeleteHope to meet up with you somewhere here in the desert this winter, travel safe.
DeleteWelcome to Arizona! It is definitely the Snowbird State.
ReplyDeleteThanks is so wonderful to be here.
DeletePS ... We know where you'll be hiding in January. We'll drag the Weavers with us to meet you.
ReplyDeleteNow that would be awesome, we were hoping to meet up with them, Happy Hour in the desert!
DeleteAnd, we also know what time you have Happy Hour!! Plan on it.
DeleteAlmost anytime is good too.
DeleteI always read the comments and it looks like you'll be having a very active social life all winter..... what fun it is meeting fellow bloggers and RVing friends.
ReplyDeleteIt looks that way, will be meet new people and meeting up with old friends too, love the lifestyle.
DeleteWe are under cloud cover today in Yuma. It is warm though....and forecast could top the low 80's.
ReplyDeleteContinued smooth ride today.
No problem will will be there this afternoon to enjoy it as well. Maybe even get a chance to meet up with you guys again this year, would be awesome.
DeleteIt's always good to know of a little store that seems to have some of about everything - we have one of those here as well.
ReplyDeleteWe love the small local independant stores, always great service.
DeleteANOTHER great day - boy you guys are adding them up! Derek's mom's maiden name is Benson so we think of that each time we drive by - we've never actually stopped there. The chicken dinner looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteWe enjoy everyplace we go. Benson is a nice small town and lots to see and do in the area that have enjoyed over the years, hope to get back there for a week or 2 in the spring.
DeleteI've had much better luck fixing windshield chips with a $10 kit from NAPA stores. I had a "pro" do it who charged me $80 and it came out terribly. So I just do them myself. I keep a kit onboard, MH windshields are stone magnets. ;c)
ReplyDeleteHey thanks Paul will probably check that out tomorrow.
DeleteGreat tip.
