Border crossing rules, and another fun day here.

Where are we today ?
Below is a very interesting article bringing things up to date for  us Canadian Snowbirds,   Looks like "the good old days" of lax enforcement of day count will end in 2014.
Just click the blue print below to take you to the article.
On my early morning walkabout I spotted this lone Iris (I think that's what it is) all by itself in with a bunch of cactus. Just a bit of color here in the shade, so wonderful.
Then back home about 8:30 noticed neighbor Rob waxing the front of his 5 er using the long ladder he borrowed from our friend Ron. Hmm just what I need for a few minutes. So when he was done I borrowed it. To wash and wax the front of our coach above the windshield, my ladder does not quite reach this spot.
We got those chores done and relaxed with our books for a while. Added some water to our fresh water tank as we were told water will be shut down at 1 pm tomorrow for? So we are prepared no problem.
Just enjoying this great day with our books and chatting with neighbors works for us.
About 2:30 we had decided the six of us would order a mess of Broasted Chicken from Junction Express in Benson. (we love their Chicken).
We picked it up and incorporated an early supper with "Happy hour" and good bye party all in one. Ron and Loree are heading out in the morning working their way slowly back to Ontario. We will see them at some time this summer back home.
Now this really hit the spot
Then we had what I call a 6 inch rainfall here in Arizona. For about two minutes the rain drops hit the ground about 6 inches apart. Then we had a double rainbow, I think the first time we have seen one here in the southwest in the winter.
Now with the dry light wind and over cast skies, its amazing how cool 82f can feel.
the best shot I could get
of an interesting sunset tonight
That was another productive day here in the southwest, got stuff done and enjoyed visiting with good friends, and feasting on tasty food.
Thanks for the visit again, hope you had a great day too.

  1. Very interesting about the day count. Government can never leave well enough alone.

What a gorgeous rainbow photo. Good job!

    1. Both Canada and USA governments are involved it this too. We have always counted the days ourselves and are very careful, but this will effect a lot of people.

  2. I do not understand why the US government is being so hard on our friends to the north in Canada, but yet they don't seem to take this stance on the southern visitors, from Mexico. Do the same rules apply? And these rules seem awfully harsh. Why change the rules at all? Has there been such a horrible problem with people spending too much time in the US?

    1. Not sure what the problem is, but if us Canadians spend too much time here we need pay taxes etc.. We do spend a lot of money here and have our own health care. We enjoy the southern states and the warm weather that is not available in Canada.

    1. We have watched our time crossing the border for years are, pretty simple we are allowed 182 days every 12 months in the USA without any problems and both countries will be taking an accurate count.

  4. Six inches apart for the rain isn't what we've received in Texas recently. I think we're going to get plenty more of it over the next few days. Enjoy those nice days while you can.

I think the US and Canada are just tightening up period. Losing health care is another big issue for Canadians.

  5. Love your rainbows. We haven't seen any rain - not even the 6 inches. So no rainbows. Wind and dust storms though.

  6. I'm not too concerned about the new day count enforcement rules as we've only ever stayed in the USA for 4 months or more once. It's unlikely we'll ever stay beyond 4 months again so I don't think we'll be affected. The biggest issue for us is our healthcare and that's a Canadian thing not American.

    1. We do know quite a few people this will effect, not sure how they will deal it.

  7. I'm like you George - very careful not to exceed the number of days allowed in the US. Soon enough I won't be able to travel South to get warm but while I can I sure don't want to have it taken away from me.

    1. Thats exactly why we need to be careful. It sure would change our lifestyle as we know it now if we were denied entry into the USA.

  9. Respecting the rules is critical to free flowing between the U.S. and Canada. I respect the rules.

I chuckled at your 6" rain over in Arizona.

  10. So I can understand this fully........if we spend 2 weeks in the summer in the U.S. does that count come off the 182? Leaving us with 168 for winter travel to U.S.? Or because it isn't what they call 'rolling' is it ignored? We haven't started yet with full timing but wondered how they treat the count. Thanks to anyone who knows. :)
Nice sky, George! I cringe to think that 82 F is chilly........I'd probably give up something really special right now for a taste of that! ha ha.

    1. Every day you cross the border even to shop for a few hours and even a few minutes counts as one day and they will now count it so be careful if you cross. So keep track or your days, because now the governmenst will now.
