More purging, trailer wreck and why are we fulltime?

Where are we today ?
This morning got our car serviced at Pettigrew's Garage in Plattsville, then packed up a few things to stow at Ma's place, purged some items there too. Had a nice visit enjoyed a coffee then headed to Suzie's Mom and Dad's for some computer adjustments and another short visit.
On the way back to town saw this trailer (below) behind a tow truck and stopped to take a closer look. Pretty badly damaged and upon closer inspection noticed that there was a HUGE tree that had fallen on this rig and did some major damage. Luckily no one was in the trailer at the time (it was in storage). Another reason we prefer campgrounds with no or very few trees.
OPPS !
Now back at the farm for a bit, putter around then throw together supper. Sandy had a nice ham that we heated up made some creamy whipped potatoes, mixed veggies, tossed salad and finished off the left over Chinese food for Mother's Day. (Thanks Ma).
very tasty supper again

There is a lot of people out there that do not RV and cannot grasp the idea of why we would want to live in our Rv fulltime and not want to stay in a house, our one place all the time. They cannot grasp the concept of selling all their belongings to explore a bit, moving around this great country. I came across this article below that helps to explain why we love this lifestyle, we are now in our 8th year.

I read this quote below on an RV forum today and expresses our feellings exactly and would love to share it with you.

"Someone asked me the other day why I would want to "Live like this" when I can afford to buy a bigger modular and live in a nice senior park? I smile softly when my family or friends don't grasp why we choose to cash out and live on wheels. Our stuff owned us and we worked so very hard to allow inanimate objects to be our ruler. My husband maxed out his 401k for over 30 years. When we gave away and sold EVERYTHING we were completely debt free. Yes, we didn't sell our house at the top of the market, but so what if our profit was less...it was ours. So many said, "No don't sell, wait for the market to come back!!" We wanted FREEDOM from the rat race. We paid the 10% penalty on the 401k so we could do whatever we wanted. We live in a 32' Class A. It is not brand new, but it is not too old and we bought from the original owner who had all of the maintenance records. We are 100% debt free including our Honda 'Toad'. Our budget is 1/2 of what it used to be. Sometimes I live in a nice resort, sometimes by a lake, river, or in a bay, and sometimes in a beautiful forest. Why do we live like this?? A better question is why didn't we live like this SOONER?? "

So there, sums it up pretty good, works great for us. Glad it's not for everyone because it would get pretty crowded out here on the road.

Thanks for stopping by and if you are on the road and can find us, stop in for a visit, guests are always welcome!

  2. Luv that explanation that you shared George. I had mixed feelings the first 6 months of our transition. But have no regrets now. As the days pass I am loving it more and more. Looking forward to the years ahead, and places to see. No more rat race in my future and that's the way I want to keep it! Cheers!

  4. Exactly! People just do not understand not wanting to live in a neighborhood with the same people day in and day out. They just don't understand.

    1. If you want it to happen it will.
      The sooner the better.

  6. We have only been doing it for 8 years now and our biggest fear is that "someone will find us and make us go back." :) Wish we could have started earlier but for today we have seen more in 8 years than the previous 59 and have met and made better friends in the past 8 than we ever would have. 8. That sums it up for sure!

So glad no one was in that RV at the time of the fire. How sad.

  9. Glad you are enjoying it. You're right, it's not for everyone and we're a prime example of that. We love our home here on Vancouver Island and like the fact that we can pick up and go RVing anytime we want but always have a comfortable home to come back to.

    1. We never had that beautiful home on the island, Thou I was offered one in 1975, and a job, in Duncan BC, but was not ready to leave my family at that time.
      This now works for us.

  10. We are "Half-Timers" with an Island home just a couple of hours up Vancouver Island from Rick. We managed to retire debt free in 2000 and enjoy having the house to putter around with in the summers. Things may/will change in the future but right now, this works for us. Everyone is different and I can certainly appreciate the appeal that full timing has for you. Maybe someday...
