Thurs. Feb 17th 2011 San Antonio Texas

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,
 since August 2006

Warm overnight again and a cloudy morning with a light drizzle again, but its warm. So coffees and a walkabout we are on the road at 9:30am to San Antonio (1 hour away). Here we are going to meet up with Suzie's Aunt Delores and Uncle Earlus and the rest of their crew. There is 8 people traveling in a van doing a sixteen day tour from Kitchener Ontario to the Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon, Sedona, Tombstone, San Antonio Texas, Victoria, Galveston and New Orleans. This tour is more than 5,300 miles (8,600 kms) wow a lot to see in a short time, it takes us 6 months to do that. But they do take turns driving in two hour shifts.

We arrived in town about 10:30 parked near the Alamo and walked about for a short while until they arrived off a sightseeing trolley tour.

Here we met with them ,chatted for a bit and walkabout over to and along the Riverwalk to find a nice place for lunch. We decided on the Republic of Texas Restaurant right on the sidewalk beside the canal. Suzie and I enjoyed a great catfish lunch,(something we have not had for a long time) chatting with everyone and catching up with their energetic tour. After a nice leisurely lunch and walkabout, stop for an ice cream then they got back in their van heading towards Victoria Texas to meet up with some friends in a campground. We got back in our car and headed back home arriving at 3:30pm to enjoy the rest of the nice warm sunny afternoon with a book.

We had a very enjoyable visit with them, seeing as they were driving so close by. Along with another short visit to the Alamo and Riverwalk. But with such a nice lunch we had no desire for supper, just a couple of small snacks and were able to read outside, with enough sunlight (in shorts) until 6:30pm. Spring is definitely on the way!

  1. 8 in one van! Lovely spot for lunch. We'll add it to our 'must visit' list.

  2. Contessa, yes 8 ! not our style but they are having a ball. And The Riverwalk in San Antonio is a nice place to visit for lunch, shopping and take a sightseeing boat ride. Tourist area but neat.
