We do like to support local businesses and we seem to do that pretty well here in Benson. It can stop any time now, some expenses are mandatory such as food, maintenance etc. But we had to replace the windshield on our coach yesterday (a big expense but insurance covered 90%), this morning I pulled out of the resort and 1 block down the road I hear a strange noise, pull over and sure enough a flat tire. Well I changed that and noted that a huge nail had gone thru the tread and sidewall (unrepairable). So off to find a local tire shop and of course there's one just around the corner, Shannon's Auto Parts. Within 10 minutes I had a new tire installed, balanced and back on the car for a very reasonable price, and met yet another friendly merchant in Benson glad to take our money, pretty soon I will have met them all!So back to my original purpose to go shopping, was for some fresh mushrooms and miniature tarts. Well miniature tarts are very hard to find here in a lot of the states so no luck here in Benson. None at Safeway and none at the New Super Walmart. I am surprised, I thought Walmart had everything but today I learned no miniature tarts AND no automotive department to sell and install tires. So tire problem solved, I will fix the tart problem too, make our own. All I need is 3oz of cream cheese, which Walmart had for $1.00 and we have the rest of the ingredients. Now back home putter around for bit and make a nice batch of mini pecan tarts, yummy.

Now to wrap up another adventurous day, we fire up the Barbie (just love to BBQ) put on a baked potato along with a prime rib steak, fresh mushrooms and onions, grilled tomatoes and brocoli, very tasty. Good thing we eat our fuit and vegetables during the day, it was oh so tasty.

Be thankful it wasn't an RV tire! That would have really set you back! How do you grill tomatoes on the BBQ?
ReplyDeleteGrilled tomatoes, cut in half, a sprinkle of olive oil, some spice, (eg,salt . pepper, garlic whatever you like) place face down 3 minutes, then I flipped them over, sprinkle cheese on top and grill 1 or 2 minutes to melt cheese, not too long or they will fall apart, yummy.
