Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,
 since August 2006

Was it cold here? Well for this part of Arizona on thursday (the day before we got here)  it got down to 6f (-14c), not cold for some parts of the country but very extreme for here. Many of the huge prickly pear cactus were destroyed by the extreme cold as were the palm tree leaves. Are we complaining about the cold??? NO. I'm just telling it like it is. It sure is a lot warmer and sunnier than back home.

Water lines in the campground had burst, even inside some of the RV's here as well. This morning I was at the hardware store in town and the plumbing section was very busy. I overheard one gentleman say that this is the first time in his 67 years here that he has had a broken water line due to the cold. A lot of plumbing repairs still being done.

I had gone to the hardware store originally to look for a rubber weatherstrip for our shower door. I spotted a wrench for our water filter and a new O ring, but many different sizes. So I went back home to check  out the filter and measure it. At this time we had lunch and chatted with the couple from Mount Forest Ontario for a while as they were checking out of the campground and moving on to St. David.  After lunch back to the Hardware store, (its about a mile away) and make my purchase. Well the filter wrench was too small , so back to the store for the next size up, back home and try it, hmm its too big. So finally on my 4th trip back to the store I returned the wrench and went back to the old way of struggling with it. Oh by the way this 10 minute chore took up about 3 hours of my busy schedule, seriously cutting in on other activities, like chatting with neighbours, walking and reading.

But it was bright and sunny and hardly any wind so we can enjoy a few hours or bright Arizona skies, after such a busy morning. One thing that we did notice was all the advertising here for Super Bowl stuff... food, beer, drinks, snacks, sandwiches, chicken wings, pizza. Its almost like Super Bowl Sunday is a bigger event than Christmas. The clubhouse was packed noisily with people from the resort with snacks, beverages and serious fans (not a place for us) for a 4 hour football game. The ones that did not go were bringing in pizza etc... to their rigs at half time.
nice day
Now its still nice, so out with the barbie for some pork chops, BBQ'd potatoes, broccoli and a potato roll.
tasty
After supper we turned on some of the Super Bowl, and watched a bit, the half time show and some of the commercials (while reading our books). Not being sports fans we did pretty good, considering there wasn't much else on tv. Oh by the way incase you did not know, the final score was 31-25 for the Green Bay Packers over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

  1. Thank goodness the temps are inching up but how awful to see the cacti and trees suffering.
