Bittersweet memories, what can I say?

Where are we today ?
A very warm sunny day and actually Suzie and I spent the morning outside doing some "Yard work" ! Its that time of year and we are still in the house so somebody needs to do it. Guess thats us. Got things cleaned up a bit but then time for us to head out about 11 am.
actually got a shot of this robin while we were
in garden this morning
It is one of those things that need to be done and sad that for the reason that we do it. My extended family, my father's second marriage some 40 years ago I enjoyed a second family of two more sisters and a brother. We spent a lot of time together over the years back then with some wonderful memories and great times.
But we found out a spouse had passed away and there was a get together to celebrate his life. So of course we had to go if at all possible. And it was, we made it happen. After all these years we have almost lost touch but still manage to pull together at times like this. Weddings and funerals we all get wrapped up in our own lives. I am sure many of you have experienced the same thing too.
Just a 2 hour drive through Toronto to Oshawa, and get together with so many people was very nice. This spouse was taken at a much to young of age, he was a very vibrant person and gave my step sister a lot of happiness for many years. So nice to see every body again and chat with such a huge group of people, its been way too long.
As we travelled the HWY 401 through Toronto there was a slow down for a few minutes around Yonge st, this actually allowed me to take a couple pics of these interesting apartments I have looked at for many, many years whipping by at 65 mph.
After a very nice visit chatting, hugs and toasts with so many people, it was becoming crowded in the house so we paid our respects and headed back home.
On the way back I craved a recipe I had come across, so picked up what was needed and put together these very tasty / healthy chicken avocado  burgers to do on our Weber Q. For the recipe click HERE or my recipe blog on the right sidebar.
we had snack today so no need for a huge meal
That was it for our day, like said bittersweet moments and so many great memories to relive too.
We all realize that life is to short and we do need to make the best of every day that we are here on this earth.
Thanks for stopping by for the visit always glad to have you here.
Check out the interactive map below to see where we have been this past Winter.

  1. Seems like funerals of family and friends bring us together more often than we wish... thank goodness there are weddings, births and the such to go to as well. Sorry for your loss.

  2. Sorry to hear about your Step-sister's loss. Times like that make you appreciate enjoying life while you can. Something we both learned from personal experience.

    1. We are so glad that we could make it too.
Until I was 17 we lived just south of the 401 Markham and Lawrence, not far from the Toronto Zoo, small world!

  4. Our annual family get togethers were started just because of bittersweet memories. Now many of us get together at least once a year.

  5. Life has a way of separating us from family and friends. And even though it's a sad time when you are attending a funeral it still is wonderful to be able to reconnect with everyone. Life is precious and we need to live every moment of it to the fullest.

  8. That is the motto I try to live by, 'life is short, live each day to the fullest'. Sorry for your loss but it must have been special to reconnect. Amazing how certain things are working our now that you are back. Nice shot of the robin.
