Where are we today ?
Yep it was cold last night again but sure beats what they had in Buffalo with all that snow stuff. Got the coffees drank , computing done and even a nice walkabout. Just waiting for the sun to warm things up this morning and we can secure our coach and hit the road. No real rush today.
On our way by 9 am heading west just moseying along, follow I-12 to I-10 and across the Louisiana swamp bridges (about 10 miles of swamp I think) and the Mississippi River at Baton Rouge.

132 miles today |
|
again love the lane markings on the roads |
|
crossing over the Mississippi |
|
elevated roads over the swamps |
Around Lafayette Louisiana saw a Pilot/Flying J cheap gas. So pulled in to top up our tank, the best prices we have seen yet this winter so far $2.439 a gallon =.74 cents a litre (at a 15% exchange) back home $1.08 a litre. Saved $38.00 on this fill up compared to Ontario. Yep we can afford to travel much more this year.
Right around noon we arrived at Betty's Rv Park. Check in had a bite for lunch and got set up.
The sites here are small but then she only has 17 full hookup sites. Cozy and friendly Betty herself is a wonderful welcoming person. Anything you need just ask and Happy hour is at 4:30 in the room she showed us, too cool outside. Bring your beverage and a snack to share if you wish.

this our site, FHU only $20.00 a night, free wifi too. |

entrance to the office and clubhouse |

nice garden? Unique for sure |

outdoor happy hour place |
Once set up I ran to the Grocery store up the street for a few items and found this cajun stew in the freezer section. I had a real craving for something Cajun so Suzie and I split this, for a snack before Happy Hour. Very tasty yes! Quick easy and did the trick.

just a tease |
Now at 4:30 over to the social room, we took some crackers and cheese, and other people had a variety of snacks to hand around, small sandwiches, olives, pickles, veggies, pretzels, a first for us
persimmons (they are very tasty) and some very tasty hot fresh made perogies. Of course everyone friendly, we are all rv'ers ya know. Conversation flowed and the snacks we devoured. Activities discussed and good places to eat. So much going on if we were staying longer but we have planned only 3 days, could keep busy here for 3 weeks or longer.
|
always something going on here |
|
persimmons, a first and very tasty |
|
this guy beside me is really into it |
Our first day at Betty's and it was wonderful. Small campground , everyone friendly. This is the kind of campground we enjoy. Its not the facilities it's the management, staff and attitude of people here.
If you read yesterdays posting I mentioned the one couple that drove around the previous campground for 2 hours looking for a campsite. Most of the sites here are pull through, but they choose a back in site. Left their car on the tow dolly in the middle of the road since yesterday. With a pull through site right across from them. Really makes me wonder sometimes, but then again each to their own.

Yep we are enjoying it here for a few days
a few things to see before we are back on the road

Another fun day here now in Cajun country for a few days, getting a bit warmer now too.
Thanks for stopping by and if you are in the area stop in and visit Betty.

We've read a lot about Betty's RV park. I wish there were more just like that one.
ReplyDeleteIt is an experience nothing fancy, friendly, full hookups, cozy and reasonable.
DeleteYep, that's getting to be some pretty cheap gasoline. Quite a bit more expensive here in Mexico.

DeleteWe look forward to more stories from Betty's. The sites are tight but for three days, that is not a deal breaker. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThe sites are tight but we have enough room. Nice small town and friendly people in cajun country.

ReplyDeleteIt is definitely an experience, fun times, maybe next time need to stay here longer.
DeleteDo a tour of the town. It is so cute.
ReplyDeleteIf you are interested in doing a swamp boat tour, check out Champagne's Cajun Swamp Tours. Betty recommended them and they did a great job.
Thanks for the tips, we did a swamp tour right after Katrina few years ago near Slidell quite interesting.
DeleteOh, George, your post brought back all the wonderful memories of my two-month stay at Betty's beginning in December of last year up to February of the current year. And, I see some familiar faces at the cocktail hour(s)!!! Please give my best to everybody, especially Betty; tell them I'm missing all the fun I had there.
ReplyDeleteWe'll be leaving for Cozumel (lots of family) on Saturday and I'll get back to blogging. My son, Jeff, and my daughter, Kari, will be competing in the Cozumel Ironman. There'll be lots of posts about my current adventures.
Enjoy Betty, as she's one of a kind - warm, generous and so much fun. Have a great visit there!

ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time there. I thought it was suppose to be a secret spot.
ReplyDeleteNothing fancy and not for everyone but we sure are loving it. We have heard about it from other rv'ers.
DeleteBetty's has been on our radar for a long time, we planned on staying there this winter on our way west, but you know how those plans evaporated. :c(
ReplyDeletePlans do change all the time, we can only do what we can do. It is a place to stop by when you get a chance.
Deleteyep love Betty's too, we ahd a mini Betty's reunion in Quartzsite a few weeks back and even called betty during happy hour to let her know we were at happy hour too, just a few thousand miles away...
