Rain we got, and a relaxing overcast Sunday but productive, finally got me some new shoes.

Where are we today ?
clic a pic to enlarge it
Rained most of last night so was great for sleeping. And rained the better part of today off  and on until about 3 pm.
Got the computing and coffees done but did not feel like walking in the ran, so about 8:30 a quick trip into New Hamburg for a few groceries than back home for an early lunch.

Done lunch by 11:30 and still raining so I decided to take a rainy drive into Kitchener for some new shoes for me. Factory Shoe has a good selection of name brand shoes and they had exactly what I wanted.
A new pair of Birkenstocks. Really love these sandals and finally wore my last pair out that I bought over 6 years ago, Not cheap but so very comfortable and if they last that long they are worth the money to me.
my new Birkenstocks
I was also wanting a good pair of hiking shoes and have read that Merrels' are another good quality shoe. I like the aggressive tread for most of my  walking ( I don't really hike) most of my walking is done on dirt roads, grass, and in the desert. Again not cheap but oh so comfortable you do get what you pay for and a comfortable shoe makes a big difference when walking. Over a year ago I bought a pair of Saucony hiking shoes (at the Thrift Store in New Hamburg, 5 bucks) and really loved them. But eventually found out they were too narrow for my feet. Too bad I liked those too.
At the Factory  Shoe a nice lady helped me with proper sizing and completely different than what I have been wearing.
these are so comfortable
Back home and puttered around for a while then about 3 pm the rain stopped so we headed outside to enjoy our e-readers until in was time to whip up supper. Still overcast but was 72 F with very little breeze. Just fine to get some fresh air and quality reading done.
this was it pretty well all day
I grilled a couple of boneless pork chops done on our grill mat keeps them moist and the grill clean. To keep them from drying out I timed them 3 minutes then turned over after 3 more minutes check the temperature of the chops with my instant read thermometer. Only 100F so 3 more minutes same side, turn over for 3 more minutes internal temp 140F ,perfect. Take them off and let them rest covered with foil 5 minutes, 145F moist juicy and so very tasty. I used Gordons Texas Grub Rub that I found in Texas, very nice flavour, it is available in a few states.
oh yeah
what a tasty supper, sure hit the spot
Now dishes done and back outside I wanted to take my new shoes for a walkabout town just over a mile, Yup these are good.
Still outside wrapping up this posting and read a bit more, just because we can.
Thanks for taking a peek and hope you had a nice relaxing Sunday as well

  1. Does rain mean the grass will need cutting? I like the Merrell too as an easy boot/shoe, however they've become a bit out of my price range, so I'll have to keep my old ones a bit longer. It must be nice to be home, any hockey games? or is the season over?

    1. Yes the grass will need cutting later thus week so I will be busy again, It has hardly. The merles are pricey, but it has been over 20 years since I bought a good pricey pair of shoes so thought I was due. The 30 dollar shoes have been lasting me about 6 months.
Hockey is over for a few months and even soccer season is done as well.

  2. Nice shoes, great choices. Please send any leftover rain our way as the fires could use the moisture.

  4. Hey .... those berkies will fit ME!! Love my birkenstocks, I just wish they weren't quite so expensive. Unfortunately, they don't last me very long. I'm getting ready to cut my bbq mat to fit. No more big messes!

    1. Yes they are your size, my feet got smaller? Last ones were a 40. I wish there were not so expensive either, but worth it. Don't wear mine everyday so they will last much longer. The mat comes in handy for some applications, enjoy it. My last shoes were a 9-10 now they are 8???

  5. Great day there George and very productive. Nice that you got the birkenstocks since you like them so much! I know you'll get lots of years out of them. The Merrel walking shoes are awesome! Grandson did the 20 mile hike in Merrel hiking boots this week and said his feet were comfy the whole time. You know the saying "You get what you pay for" and for your feet definitely worth it! Dinner looked delicious!

    1. Yes I do love my Birks so comfy, and the Merrels are like walking in air. No 20 mile hikes for me any more, but do manage a few miles a day in comfort now.
      Dinner was very tasty thanks.

  6. Have had my Merrils for a couple of years now, no sign of wear and great for walking. Good choice. Hot and dry here this week, I love it but so do the fires...
