Still enjoying the great weather, cool overnight 38F at 5;30 am but we are cozy inside under our blankets and comforter . As the sun was rising I headed out for a couple of nice walkabouts on our last morning here in Glen Rose Texas as the sun was rising and warming up the day. as you may know my favorite time of the day.
|
a nice sunrise to start the day |
|
gonna miss this place but gotta keep moving |
Not in a hurry today our plan is only 288 miles to a Walmart or Flying J in Checotah Oklahoma. So by 9 am we are on the road enjoying what we love to do, moving on down the road. Nice places and new faces.
|
starting off on some nice back roads |
We have rout right through Dallas avoiding the toll roads and looks pretty easy nice road to travel very little traffic at this time of day.
We were watching for the turn on for 75 north to 69 but with the very long line of traffic we missed it. Oops, we thought. No big deal we will take the next exit follow our streets and trips program on Suzie' s laptop and actually had very nice scenic route for about a 1/2 mile through a new section of downtown Dallas missing all that traffic. wow that was wonderful !
|
lots of nice scenery and no major slowdowns |
|
love the scenic bridges and overpasses |
|
nice old train bridge |
Soon we crossed into Oklahoma to the welcome centre and only rest area that we had today for a more than 6 hour drive.
|
a very nice welcome centre we made a tasty lunch here a got some info on Oklahoma |
No rest areas today other that that one, but a few small towns we passed through can always find a spot to pull over , get a stretch and a walkabout , nature calls us and I need to exercise my back anyway.
We saw a Camping World on our route and thought we would stop in just for fun. Nothing we needed but a nice stop anyway to stretch, Well heck we pulled into their lot and full of new trailers, no where to turn around . Anyway we parked and checked out this very small store we here anyway. A waste of time but now we need to disconnect our car to turn around, No big deal deal just a pain. , Got that done and a nice fellow came over to chat about our coach he is wanting to buy one just like this and wondered what we think of it. Well it is only 19 years old and is a very well built coach and we love it . We chatted for quite a while and probably could have done that all day but we wanted to get all on the road. The best he can do is what he is doing is research and talking to people and make his own decisions on what he wants to do.
|
pretty decent roads we have no complaints just moving right along |
Spotted this smoke in the distance and as we came much closer found what looks like a house on fire. Firetrucks had just arrived hope no one was injured in this blaze.
|
fire trucks just got here and more coming |
|
pasted buy Savanah OK, nice slim water tower |
|
old drive in movie screen but the theatre is gone |
|
across the Eufaula river lots people fishing there |
We fuelled up at the Flying J here in Checotah Oklahoma and decided to spend the night at the Walmart across the road, needed some groceries anyway. Got the groceries and whipped up a tasty chicken stir fry for supper. We have the food so why not ? Sure was a tasty meal quick and easy,.
|
lotsa room here at this Walmart that we like pretty quiet |
|
not long and ready to cook only tays a couple of minutes for wonderful tasty healthy meal |
|
tasty and filling some tortillas left over from last night |
Now here we are after supper in a Walmart parking lot and enjoying another wonderful sunset, now really does it not get much better than that for a free overnight stop? And no neighbours ?
|
enjoying this Walmart Sunset |
|
nice easy track day we enjoyed |
A very nice , interesting travel day, amazing weather, very little traffic and no noticeable winds, does really not get much better than this for moving on down the road.
Thanks again for stopping on by and hope y'all had a great day as well.

Where have we been this winter ?
Welcome to OK, looks like you found a nice way to skirt the Dallas traffic. We got caught there west-bound at rush-hour ... not fun! You've also made some nice progress north, continued safe travels on your way home.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jeff, taking I-20 through DFW takes forever and definitely not during rush hour for us it was a good day.
DeleteWow, looks like an easy drive through Dallas. That's a pretty straight north route you took. We stayed at that Walmart on the way west I believe. Like you, we find the Walmarts are great for a quick stop over night and we always try to leave a little money behind to pay for our use of the hardtop for a few hours.
ReplyDeleteSafe travels.
Yes Deb, it was a pretty easy drive through Dallas and we do enjoy the Walmarts , lots of space, pick up a few supplies then right back on the road in the morning.
DeleteGlad you were able to miss most of the traffic around Dallas!! That’s a beautiful sunset for a free camping site!! Dinner looks delicious!!
ReplyDeleteThanks it was a good travel day, free camping, nice sunset and a tasty meal.
DeleteGood job on navigation. I think I would be hopelessly lost and instead of finding a nice safe Walmart I would be sleeping on the side of the Interstate.
ReplyDeleteContinued safe travels.
Thank Dave mostly Suzie does this fine work helping me read the signs and our map program. there is Walmarts everywhere no need to sleep on the interstate unless stranded by weather or a breakdown.
DeleteWe had issues with our GPS today as well.
ReplyDeleteFrom your map and location you are eighty-five miles away.
Be Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
The issues we had were not GPS though, just misread the road sign so missed our turn Suzie's laptop has microsoft streets and trips with a gps to get us back on coarse again. Crossing paths again, we will all eventually end up back home in Ontario.
DeleteA very full day indeed. When you used Suzies laptop to navigate via streets and trips were you navigating via live internet or by previously downloaded maps??
ReplyDeleteIt was a fun day always something to keep us on our toes.
DeleteWe have an older version of Microsoft Streets and trips IWinodows only not on a Mac) it has all the maps for Canada< USA and Mexico included right in the program we have been using, this program for at least 15 years, now obsolete but works for us, And it has a GPS that plugs into her laptop. Not internet required.
Hopefully the crazy weather will be gone from the North when you get there.
ReplyDeleteThanks Larry that sure would be nice.
DeleteA good travel day for you and you got tucked into a quiet Walmart. Stay safe as you move on today.
ReplyDeleteThanks Patsy it was a nice interesting travel day, and a nice quiet overnight spot.
DeleteOld outdoor theater. Don't see many of those anymore. Interesting route you're taking. I always turn north before Dallas to avoid, but it sounds like you had no troubles. Safe travels today.
ReplyDeleteYes Doug don't see to many drive ins anymore they were a huge part of my life growing up.We were south of DFW and heading north to a campground on Oklahoma Sop thought we would try this route and was pretty good
DeleteThose navigators are worth their weight in gold!!! So are Walmart parking lots!! Lol
ReplyDeleteThey sure are priceless and the Walmarts love em too.
DeleteNot all Camping World locations are accommodating to transients we learned. Benno Googles the locations before hand if he thinks we might be stopping there to see if there is enough room to park. But sometimes you make decisions on the spur of the moment. Good thing that most Wal Marts allow us to stay overnight.
ReplyDeleteThis camping world we just wanted to check out the store not camping, have run across a few like this. Not even a place to turn around except for a small car.
DeleteWe always phone ahead to a Walmart just to be sure that we can stay. Then we will spend some money there as well.
Wow, sure making tracks! It's nice to still be able to whip up a nice supper while on the road!
ReplyDeleteWe are doing good and the weather wonderful as well, now we will settle in Oklahoma for a while and enjoy it here.
DeleteDo they still have all the Carrie Underwood signs in Checotah? We passed through there right after she won American Idol. They were really proud of their hometown gal.
ReplyDeleteDid not notice any but then we were not looking for them.
