Had a great nights sleep at this rest area, surprisingly was pretty quiet. Actually slept in until 5:30 this morning , it was 34f at that time. But as the sun rose this warmed up nicely.a wonderful sunrise this morning another great day |
we had a nice spot here last night not many truck running close to us with our dual pane windows, we don't here much outside |
a nice drive not much traffic all day |
a couple of refineries |
This one I remembered to take a picture |
Walked about this area a bit and checked out the store for stuff I like to check out, and always enjoy looking at all the trucks here, then got to relax and read for a while. Set up our Tv and have 3 good channels. If nothing on we will pop in another movie tonight.
we do enjoy these flying j's for fuel stops and overnight parking not large spots but we don't need to open our slide, so perfect for us. |
have noticed these truck roadside assistance trucks at a few Flying j's |
this guy wanted to hop out and play, but was very good |
we have a nic spot perfect for the night |
our salad to share, not bad for $1:89 |
my chiorzo skillet with chicken and extra hot sauce, very tasty |
bourbon chicken skillet for Suzie she really enjoyed it |
Even here at the flying J we did get to enjoy a nice colourful sunset.
Now after a very nice travel day, reading a good meal, fresh air, walkabouts and nice sunset. Think we will just kick back and watch another movie and soon call it a night, just because we can.
Thanks for traveling along with us and hope y'all had a wonderful day as well.
All the best to you and Suzy on your homeward journey George.
ReplyDeleteThanks Al appreciate it we taking our time with a few stops here and there, you guys will soon be heading north too, safe travels as well.
DeleteSounds like a relaxing travel day. It is nice that you and Suzie are able to take your time and enjoy the journey.
ReplyDeleteLike your sunset picture.
Continued Safe Travels.
Thanks guys.
DeleteIt was a very relaxing day that we really enjoyed.
After dry camping for the past three nights you can afford dinner and still not blow the budget. Looks like you had a good day. We just can't travel 200 miles and stop. From point A to B we just go for it. No sense wasting our time in a truck stop when we could be home sooner or just in a nicer place. We would rather stay here on the Isla much longer and then do longer days to get home. We all travel differently.
ReplyDeleteDinner was tasty, we dry camp the majority of the year because we can.. We are not wasting time here at the Flying J this is part of our lifestyle that we enjoy. A long as we are moving and seeing different sights we will wander about the country..
DeleteYes we do all travel differently. and enjoy different things in life;.
Good answer George
DeleteThanks Jim I thought so too. You guys travel similar to us as well.
DeleteWe dry camp most of the way between Canada and Mexico and back. However we just can't travel short distances and stop. For you it is a lifestyle and you are retired. We are not so every day counts. Perhaps in the next few years as we retire that may change. But for the last 20 years of RVing we have always gone from point A to B, of course with a few stops
Deletealong the way. I think we both love traveling and that we are happy to do long days so that after 2 -3 weeks we get to where we are stopping for 4 months or longer. After working 7 months of 20 hour days with no days off we are happy to just stop in paradise and relax. The major difference is that you are retired and just cruising along whereas we have a destination and a time frame. Totally different ways to travel that can't be compared.
There is no comparison, for us to sit in one place is not something both of us enjoy.
DeleteRetirement is the best job we have ever had. enjoying life doing what we like when we like and going where the mood takes us. Retired only 12 years now wish we had started sooner.
Glad to see you are having great weather. Driving through Texas, is is never guaranteed. Looks like Dallas/Fort Worth coming up. Wonder which way you'll go.
ReplyDeleteWe are having great weather but as you know Texas can be very unpredictable. DFW is coming up but we going on a diversion course, no need to see the big city not our style. We have a nice plan to do something more interesting.
DeleteWOW! $2.20 a gallon, is that for diesel? I'm moving! Still hanging around $3.60 in SoCal :(
ReplyDeleteNice treat having a dinner out and giving the Weber a night off. Continued safe travels.
Jeff that is for gas we don't have a diesel, paid $2.00 a gallon yesterday. O would of coined but Suzie thought the skillet dinners would be a nice treat.
DeleteFlying J's are convenient for fuel and overnight stays...safe travels as you head back home.
ReplyDeleteWe have always enjoyed the Flying J"s, the rv fuels lanes, and rv parking , food right here if we feel like it and close to the highway. Works for us, not everyone though.
DeleteLooks like you're making good time and the winds are helping you along. I really dislike folks that put their dogs in the back of the pickup. Not only can they jump out, they can be thrown out.
ReplyDeleteThe tail winds are really helping this trip. Not sure why anyone would want to travel with their dog in back, I would not think it safe.
DeleteDon't turn north too soon. I just heard on the news that another cold front is pushing through.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dizzy, we have been watch the weather ourselves, think we should make a right turn today.
DeleteGlad you guys are having a great drive. Good prices on gas gotta say, makes the trip more affordable. Love the rest areas and the things they put in them such as the mosaics. I figured you'd avoid DFW..that place is a zoo. Dinner looked really good too. Nice to eat out once in a while. Travel safe guys!
ReplyDeleteIt has been a great drive so far , don mind going through DFW just have other plans. this trop Dinner was very tasty thanks..
DeleteI love short driving days. There's no reason in my mind to hurry. It's so much more relaxing to take your time. Spending the night in a truck stop however is not for me. I would never get any sleep unless I was in the far back corner!! We are finally having perfect weather here ... 70 degree days, 50 degree nights. Safe travels ......
ReplyDeleteThe shorter travel days are nice, we have a lot of miles to cover so some day are a bit longer. Actually don't mind these overnights, being around the trucks and diesel bring back wonderful memories of my 13 years working at the bus terminal and many younger years hanging around the buse garages with my father, Gotta love that warmer weather now, enjoy.
DeleteI love the mosaic in the rest room. Beautiful. I've not seen one of those before. I also liked the look of Suzie's bourbon chicken, looked very good. Not too much sauce.
ReplyDeleteWe all travel differently and it's a good thing or there would be no room for us all!!
Safe travels on your journey back to Ontario.
Thanks Deb, these rest rooms are very nice. Ink new you would like the bourbon chicken one of your favourites.
DeleteWe are enjoy it thanks again.
Safe travels! May the tail wind continue...
ReplyDeleteThanks Peter, pretty decent tail wind again today.
DeleteUnless we have a specific destination in mind, we are happy to stop after a couple of hundred miles. it is enough. If it puts us in a Walmart (we don't do truck stops because of our slides) too early, we'd rather keep on truckin' rather than sit in a lot where we can't unhook.
ReplyDeletethe main thing is that we each travel at our own pace because that is what works best for us. No matter what and where you stop, travel safe!
You are right Patsy, we each have different styles that we enjoy, we have a destination today, and with hang out hats for a while. We dob't need to unhook at these places.
DeleteI am waiting to see how you go around DFW. So far the route has been great and I may follow it when I head back. Have gone through DFW once and lucky it was a Sunday. Still then not my cup of tea. My luck when I do head home I probable will not get the benefit of the tail wind.
ReplyDeleteWell Peter have not figured that out yet but going to Lake Wh today, then Glen Rose then north to Oklahoma, so it will be a while yet.Don't mind going through DFW but we can avoid it taking our time around here.
DeleteWe usually eat in places that have free RV parking, consider them "free" meals. LOL
ReplyDeleteDo any of the Texas rest areas have free dumps available! Some Flying J's do but not free.
That right pay for a meal instead of camping is what we will do as well.
DeleteHave not seen any free dump stations at hess rest areas yet.
