Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,
since August 2006
Sunday morning and just love the sunrise as it shines in our front window, even if we have to wait an hour or two for it to wake up. We can get a lot of computing done while its still dark. Then a walkabout in the early morning sun, the best time of the day.
Todays' planned excursion is to go to the
Mobile Flea Market, a nice drive into and around Mobile.

today's excursion |
As we got on the road we decided that we would go directly to the Fleamarket or we might miss it like we missed the car show yesterday by being sidetracked. So a nice sunny 40 drive minute along I-10 across the causeway, and the tunnel under the river and arrived at the market.

This is one of our passions, wandering about fleamarkets checking out the vendors, the atmosphere and looking for bargains is an entertaining free excursion. A couple of hours here and we checked it all out, amazing to see how many vendors there was selling pets. Lots of puppies, rabbits, guinea pigs, Suzie was in her glory. Then we came across a book vendor, lots of paper backs current books for a good price 4 for $5.00. So Suzie opens up her 6 page, Access data base list of books and authors (she always carries this with her) we browse a bit and find 8 new books for our library. It will soon be time to find a good book exchange to lighten up our coach.

After leaving here down the road for a bit in slow traffic, but we got to sightsee while crawling along. An interesting looking retro style MacDonald's on our left.

Dirt Cheap |
And on our right an interesting sign for a store
"Dirt Cheap". It looked inviting but we were kinda stuck in traffic, in the wrong lane. We were looking for the
China Ocean Chinese Buffet, billed as the Largest Chinese Buffet in town, we had seen a sign for. Its lunch time so lets try it out. Sunday early afternoon is always a good time to go to buffets as they are busy then and the food constantly coming from the kitchen filling the trays. Also if we happen to eat a little too much we have the rest of the day to work it off. By the way it was very good and for a lot less than the price of one nights camping we satisfied our chinese food craving. Considering that we don't pay for most of our campsites year round (membership camping) compared to $35.00 a night or more that most campgrounds charge, we still are under budget.

This sign below is interesting if you think about it. We are heading south on Interstate 65 in Alabama and it ends at Interstate 10, we have only two choices left to Florida or right to Mississippi, but we want to stay in Alabama, which way do we go????
|
which way? |
Well we went left towards Florida (good thing we had a map). We only us a paper map when we tour in the car, reminds us of years ago when thats how we travelled, got lost and had some interesting adventures. We use the GPS only when touring in our coach.

Bass Pro |
We had spotted a
Bass Pro Shop and decided to stop there on the way back home, I am looking for a new vest. This place is HUGE, the large parking lot, outdoor displays, two levels inside (even two elevators to the second level) very interesting decorations, a huge fish tank with people fishing in it, displays everywhere and a
Islamorada Fish Company seafood restaurant inside the store, that has an interesting looking menu. I did manage find a new vest, that I liked on the clearance rack but a little large, it will be perfect with a slight alteration.

Now back home a walkabout, and relax in the shade to read and chat until it gets too dark to read outside (after 7:00 p.m.) and our coach cools down naturally (no AC) to a comfortable 78f (25c). Then turn on the TV for a movie and of course I fall asleep before it ends.
These excursions have to happen on the weekend because thats when events happen, now for the rest of the week we can get back to hanging out doing local stuff and cooking supper.
