Sat. Apr. 2nd 2011 A Saturday Adventure

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,
 since August 2006
Oh by the way our internet is kinda slow in this area so takes while to post this.

Just another bright and sunny hot day, after coffees, computing and coffee we decided to head out to the Gulf Shores down by the beach and take a ferry across Mobile Bay to Bellingrath Gardens where there is a car show going on today. We left the campground shortly after 9:00am and headed out for a nice country drive thru Robertsdale, Foley then to the Gulf Shores, maybe and one hour drive to the ferry.
Alabama license plate love it !
Well the first town was Robertsdale and we spotted a Camping World store and just had to stop, a couple of thing we needed. This is always a fun stop even if we don't buy anything. From here back on our journey a few more miles down the road we spotted a Coleman Factory Outlet Store. Well we just had to stop here and check out all the Coleman products under one roof. Another interesting stop along the way.
Coleman Outlet
Ok lets get going but then another few miles down the road we spotted Lambert's Cafe (home of the throwed rolls). Well we have heard about this place from other rver's and since it was now 11:45am decided to stop and check it out for lunch. Well this place is amazing it was busy and a few large rooms decorated with antiques and collectable stuff. Balloons hanging all around, lively music playing, people laughing and everybody having a great time. We were seated at our booth table and immediately were asked if we want some hot rolls, they are thrown to you! While checking the menu, staff came by with a huge bowl of deep fried ocra for us to enjoy while ordering our lunch. I ordered some wings, fries and beans, Suzie liver/onions mashed potatoes gravy and carrots (a mountain of food!)  with pretty reasonable prices too.  All the while we were eating staff came around offering from huge hot bowls, more food, scalloped potatoes, vegetables, coleslaw, beans and of course a constant supply of hot throwed rolls. People raising their hands and everybody enjoying the interaction of this fun table sport with fresh hot buns flying around the room. Well this dining experience was a lot of fun I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys putting fun into their meal. Oh by the way the food was pretty good  too and lunch for the two of us was $20.00 with enough leftovers for another meal. No credit cards card or checks only, be prepared to line up for a meal if you go at a busy time.
Lambert's Cafe
From here down along the beaches area for a bit of a drive, so many beach shops and people everywhere, lotsa traffic. Its a busy hot beach day and the end of Spring break, free parking was hard to find , so we carried on along 180 to catch the Mobile Bay Ferry a sign stating it was operating today but not when it departed. Along here we spotted a side street where we could park and walk over the sand sand dunes to a less busy part of the beach very nice area. One thing that amazed us was the all the oil rigs that we saw not far off shore, we must have spotted 10 altogether today.
nice beach
Now we  carried on down the peninsula  and finally reached the ferry at about 1:25 pm. But guess what we just missed it by 10 minutes, next one is at 2:45 pm, an hour and twenty minute wait. If we waited for this one we would be too late for the car show anyway, the whole reason for our fun excursion today. So we turned around and headed back towards home this time we stopped on Loxley at  Burris Farm market to check out the bakery and fresh fruits and vegetables.

Then back home to create some shade our window thermometer was showing 130f (55c) in the sun, open the awnings, and open the windows to cool things down abit , an hour later our thermometer had cooled considerably to 104 f (40c) impressive,  but in reality was about 92f quite comfortable with a slight breeze.
saturdays tour
Well with this busy day and full tummies a bit of a walkabout, puttering around and reading in the shade, and no supper to cook, We could enjoy the warm evening until almost 7:30, too dark to read outside. Another fun day, lets see what we can get into tomorrow.
