todays journey |
We had a good night at the Flying J in Birmingham Alabama. Up early as usual and on the road at 7:30am, we wanted to get ahead of and hopefully miss most of the severe weather that was forecast for our travel route. We have the tools to track the weather, internet on the road and our weather radio tells us where the tornadoes are at any given time, so kept Suzie busy all day. Other than some heavy rains a few times and slow going it was not too bad. There was severe weather warnings as in strong winds with gusts to 50 mph (90kph) and an advisory for high profile vehicles (thats us!) but it was a tail wind and did not affect handling too bad at all, got very good gas mileage thou, (bonus!). We stopped at a few rest areas to stretch, check the weather again and make a bite to eat.
A traffic tie up going thru Nashville Tennessee caused by an accident with an SUV laying on its side, no other vehicles around, must have really been traveling in this rainy weather to get in that mess, hope everybody was ok. We did not need to stop in Nashville this time thru, have been here many times before.

After this we crossed another state line into Kentucky, checked the weather at the visitor centre then carried on to the campground.

We finally pulled into
Diamond Caverns Resort Kentucky at 1:00 pm. checked in here $10.00 for the night (membership park) and settled in for the night. Once again we did not need to explore the Caverns or Mammoth Caves just down the road, did that last year. But its a nice spot to stop for the night, just off I-65 about a mile.

Set up camp and tv, but found we are in a dead zone for our internet, no problem, just need to walk a hundred yards to the clubhouse (secure building) where I sat on the porch swing and get free wifi there.

The coverage of the storms here is excellent on local tv, we just watched as the storms went around us. Then all was over by 10 pm and off to bed for a good nights sleep.
On the road in the morning to Wapakoneta Ohio for a few nights.
Thanks for joining today's adventure! All is good...

Was pretty good today just little bits of rain, gonna sit here in Ohio for a few days, full hook ups, free wifi, cheap camping and indoor pool and hot tub.
Just checked in....glad you are stopped and settled. I think it will be a night to treat yourselves for getting thru the past 2 days. Open up one of Suzie's special bottles, that is if it's not already open!!
