National Museum of Naval Aviation, from the past and another hot day.

Where are we today ?
clic a pic to enlarge it
Still wonderfully very warm weather. it was 70F at 5am  and still quite humid, the humidity is normal for this area.
Just before 7 am I got a couple nice morning walkabouts in this quiet campground, hoping to see some sunshine today, but not really in the forecast,  we will see.
this place is a must see
Were thinking about taking the drive to Pensacola to see the National Museum of Naval Aviation again but have been there 2 times previously and did not feel we needed to go back again so soon, last time was just 4 years ago. So I went back and looked at my old postings that I will share with you again. Love that we can go back on our blog and enjoy our past travels and places we have explored.
Our first visit to the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola Florida was in 2012 click HERE for that posting and again in 2014 spent more time and checked out the Boneyard as well. For that Posting you can clic HERE  It is really an amazing place to see. And free, (we like free!) plan to spent most of the day there maybe even 2 days. This has to be the most interesting Aviation museum we have ever visited, you will not be disappointed.

Now back to what we actually did today. My first walkabout this campground I went down by the ponds to check what was there, a few ducks enjoying the water and this warm weather.
the clubhouse and pool over there,
pool closed now for the season
It is above average temperatures for our luck 83 f today and a couple of light train showers for a few minutes, but with no wind and our awning open was wonderful.
this Police car is here, believe he
 probably lives in this park
there is a lot pf people that do
I chatted with a few friendly folks on my walkabout , love their southern accents.
Now such a nice warm day I enjoyed a nice long hot shower in the new ones right across from us. Wow is this water ever soft! Now with squeaky clean hair time for a haircut and beard trim . I set to work on that and Suzie does the finishing touches. I have the best barber in the world !
After a light lunch I took a drive across I-10 past Styx river resort we have been to many times, another membership park but owned by Ocean Canyons and if we go there we can't go to Abita Springs for at least a week. So here is where we at.
just before Styx River Resort is the shooting centre
always lotsa people there
this is a nice resort too with hot tub and heated pool
cruising down the red dirt road for a quiet drive
exploring
Then back to the travel centre to revisit the Oasis Travel centre and the Derailed Diner such an interesting place to stop and visit, we enjoyed a meal once there a few years ago and love the decorations and atmosphere.
looks like a train wreck
Diner entrance
love this entrance
interesting displays inside
the cashier in a Pirate ship
you sit in this cab and take your picture
Now the check out the diner another unique experience.
some different stools at the counter
motorcycle seat
you can even tailgate here if you like
or eat in the train car
dining in a train  car is cool
now the exit through the Volkswagen  van
period painting wow !
Left here and across the road to a local farm raised meat store and picked up a pound of ground Bison. That I will make into burgers at some point.
these will make excellent burgers
I have been told.
Now the rest of the afternoon we can relax in the shade and enjoy this 83 f weather. that we love. Reading our page turners, and I stopped for a bit to dump our grey water and check our tire pressure as I always do before we travel. As we are leaving in the morning moving down the gulf coast for a ways.
I had put our Weber Q away as I planned on cooking a shrimp dinner (that we missed yesterday) inside one of our favourites. Garlic Shrimp pasta you can clic the recipe link HERE or my recipe blog top right sidebar. I used up the rest of the Huge shrimp we bought in Mexico last spring.
I cleaned our shrimp we got from Mexico and they are huge, 10 in total cut them into 3 pieces each and added to the veggies to fry up for a few minutes until the pasta is done.
these shrimp are huge !
just about ready to put together
now we had a great feast of shrimp sure
hit the spot and some leftovers as always.
At 6 pm supper done and still 75f but we are enjoying some thunder and lightning. No problem we secure and stuff put away just because we knew it was coming. Like the weather Gods predicted.
Thanks for dropping by for a peek and hope ya'll had a wonderful day as well.

  1. What a fun diner. They sure put a lot of money into it but it does bring the customers. Love how we can use our blogs as diaries complete with photos.

  6. I love that part of the country. I've been in the area many times. In fact I stayed not far from there the first few years I travelled. Love the museum, toured it many times as well. Pensacola has an historic village that you can tour as well, I believe the tickets are very inexpensive and good for 5 days.
    Safe travels.

  11. I know exactly where you guys are and all the locations you mentioned. Like an old stomping ground. Wish I were there right now too ;-( but I keep hoping. Have a wonderful time there and at the Gulf Coast. (Is there much damage from the hurricane?) Wishing you lots of sunshine down there, but in any case have fun!
