Where are we today ?
Early, morning drive to Plattsville was a nice morning, pretty mild and no ice to scrape off the car windows again, love it !! Just a couple miles down the road through the village of Haysville I finally noticed that the trees were tapped for sap. Apparently these are walnut trees. And the syrup is very similar to Maple syrup according to Suzie's Dad. Don't know have never tried it,nice to see the trees taped and the sap running a sure sign of spring |
Made a few plans then to the indoor track (kinda chilly wind today) and got 3 miles done. Not exciting but I just need to do it feel much better afterwards.
Home again in time to whip up supper (our special time together) Tonight the last of our catfish fillets , lightly fried on coconut oil with Roasted Garlic and Butter Fish Crisp, quick easy and very tasty ! Not sure if available in the USA but most places in Canada.
That was another fine almost warm day here.
a very nice change for pan fried fish |
sure did the trick |
We are not making much progress here just sitting around twiddling our fingers, waiting for the house to sell and help on purging, at the moment (been here 63 days, very seldom stay anywhere longer than a couple weeks or maybe a month at the most, hitch-itch is setting in real bad!) we have an opportunity to get away for a day or two. So thats what we doing, gonna run away tomorrow. Come on back and check us out, We are both excited!!!
Thanks again for dropping in and hope you had a sunny Sunday wherever you are.
Check out the interactive map below to see where we have been this past Winter.
Our daughter and son-in-law had a neighbor stopped over last weekend and tell them that their Maple tress make the best syrup. Their neighbor brought with him all they needed to tap their trees. They went out and did it and the sap started to flow. They are all excited about making pure maple syrup. We won't tell them that it takes tons and tons sap to make one bottle of Maple syrup
ReplyDeleteNo don't tell them that it will be discouraging.
DeleteThat's very interesting tapping trees - good pic explains how. Hope you & Susie enjoy your "run away"..cheers
ReplyDeleteIt takes 40 - 50 gallons of sap to male i gallon of maple syrup.
DeleteSo glad you are going to get a change of scenery even if it's just for a couple of days.
ReplyDeleteIt will be nice, looking forward to it!
DeleteWe know how refreshing even a two day getaway can feel.
ReplyDeleteBe Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
Yep a change if scenery is good.
DeleteNope, can't say we have ever heard or tried walnut sap/syrup! Happy to hear things are warming up a little there for you. Hopefully spring is just around the corner. :-)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see where you are off to for a few days but you both sure deserve a change.

I have never tried it either, but Suzie's Dad says its pretty good.
DeleteAnywhere for a change is nice.
Yeah....time to make a break for it. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteWe sure will!
DeleteThat's great news that you get to scratch that hitch-itch. I hate to stay put too long too. I like to stay on the go. Our kids don't understand that all.
ReplyDeleteDidn't know it took that much sap to make syrup.
Thats why real maple syrup is so expensive, time consuming.
DeleteWe tapped trees on our farm in Ohio... mostly maples. It's the sugar content of the sap that's important. Yeah... it takes a lot of sap... and a lot of time to boil it down into syrup. But... OH, so delicious! Have fun on your mini vacation... you sure deserve a break!
ReplyDeleteHave a great trip, you deserve a break! :c)
ReplyDeleteWe are having too much fun right now wonderful time.
DeleteI'd never heard of walnut syrup but would like to try it.
ReplyDeleteIts a long process but I guess very similar to maple syrup.
DeleteAs spring is getting closer with every day I can hardly contain my hitch-itch. But I have to work it out of the system by taking on lots of charter trips.
ReplyDeleteCharter trips can be a lot of fun , enjoy your time there Peter1
