Easter Sunday , April Fools day pranks, and on the road

Where are we today ?
clic a pic to enlarge it
Just another great sleep and actually slept in until 5 am ! Wow. But we did get our coffee and breakfast done and a short walkabout not a nice morning, just cold windy and overcast. A really great day to travel, with this weather now we can leave this area and a wonderful travel day we had.
Easter Sunday and we gonna have SNOW !
We wanted to hit the road at 8:30 this morning stop at the Flying J in Joplin fuel up then make it to the Campingworld store just after they opened at 11am today, perfect timing. We had a package set aside for us that we have been looking for and finally got it! While we were here we took the time to enjoy a light lunch then back on the road making our way east along I-44  and get the 270 and 255 bypass for St Louis a road we have taken many times and enjoy it, we have been through town and seen the Arch a few times as well this is just a nicer drive. And only 343 miles today. With our stops including fuelling up again just before the Walmart (so we are good for tomorrows journey) we pulled into this Walmart at 4 PM. Great timing because it was starting to snow!   Is this an April fools joke or what ? Easter Sunday and we gonna have snow, Predicted 1-3 inches tonight so we will see what happens in the morning.
time to leave here, with this weather no point inn hanging around
Heading out of here missing the toll road and enjoying the wonderful quiet back country roads this morning, No traffic at all.
After the Flying J passed into Missouri to the  Camping world perfect timing got our package and enjoyed lunch here.
nice road today, only a few sprinkles if rain
and enjoyed the scenery
though we have travelled this route many time
over the years

stopped here got our stuff and had a nice lunch

that is one HUGE flag !
Spotted this water tower here says Bourbon , is it full of Bourbon? Wow this would be and interesting town to live in!
hmm is it full of Bourbon?
St Louis Bypass
a really great road and no city traffic
crossing the Mississippi
as usual barges here on the river
now into Illinois
like the tail pipe on this truck?
a bit of overkill I think
Got to the Walmart at 4 pm just as the snow began, perfect timing , really don't need to drive in this stuff. Our neighbour came in a while later truck a trailer covered with ice and snow.
we comfy here, our Blue flame heater keep us comfy
with the temperature at the freezing mark
ice is building up outside
on the car too
Picked up a few supplies at Walmart (pay for our camping spot) and relaxed a bit, preheated our oven and set in a spaghetti Casserole (pie)  I made a while ago and set in the freezer for couple of meals on the road, This was a real favourite for lunch specials in my restaurant, a great way to use up extra cooked pasta and sauce. It's been a while and we enjoy it too.
All set up the out it in the preheated oven just covered with some parmesan and shredded cheese about 350F for an hour or so until bubbly and the cheese melted. Oh so very tasty and easy to use up leftovers
ready so serve
added our salad and enjoyed this home cooked very tasty meal
of course enough for another meal as well
maybe tomorrow night
That was our very nice relaxing travel day. Just enough with few stops along the way. We plan on heading out in the morning, if the weather is good enough. But we have been stranded in a Walmart before in the past for a few days. Not a problem for us we are at home wherever we are. If we don't like the roads we will just stay right here until we do.
Hope you had a nice Easter Sunday as we did too . April Fools day does play some tricks on you once in a while .
      Thanks for stopping on by.
343 miles today

    1. Yeah really , we have had enough of this, even though we had a great winter so far, but snow in April is uncalled for!

  5. That is a cruel April Fool's Joke the weather played on you. Though, in our neck of the woods it is/was not unusual to get snow on the 1st of April. Hopefully, it will be gone with the sun tomorrow. Safe travels.

  6. I have taken many pictures of the flag at various Camping Worlds, always so pretty! glad you were able to get off the road before the snow got too bad. The spaghetti casserole would be just perfect for that kind of day! Travel safe!

  7. Glad you got off the road before things got ugly. You're safe and sound, I doubt Walmart will kick you out in bad weather, so enjoy your page turners until the snow and ice are gone.

    Safe travels, stay warm.

  12. I always find it rather interesting how close you pass to us when you head home. I see Fort Scott, KS on the map you show; we are 40 miles west of there. US Highways 54 and 169 cross on the east edge of our town; well, 169 goes over 54. Also note you travel I44. My husband worked in a rock quarry that supplied rock for that road back in the early 1960's.

These meals do make a nice option for an easy quick dinner.
