More desert scenery, the House Rock, free range cattle and a wonderful dinner with friends.

Where are we today ?
you can click on the pics to make them larger
Another wonderful morning walkabout as the sun rises in the desert. Explored some of the back roads here and enjoyed an amazing desert sunrise.
now is that amazing or what?
one block west quiet country roads
beautiful huge Joshua trees here
Then hopped in the Jeep with Al, Kelly and Pheebie to explore some more desert vistas. Sure is nice in their Jeep Liberty can go so many places that our car will not go. (Suzie can we get a Jeep? )
Free range cattle everywhere here
         Looking for the House rock.
We found the "House rock"
Now this rock is huge and the closer we get the bigger it gets! The Indians way back when, used this to grind probably corn or whatever in these rocks and probably used this huge rock as a shelter.
imagine what they did here
Kelly checking under the rock
under here you could have a house
These 2 lovely ladies can hold up that rock
that is one huge rock
hey Me  and Suzie
split rock
Al spotted something
He spotted a yellow jacket, attacked by a cactus
love this Saguaro
Can you see the free range cattle, given the finger ?
Pheebie gets a drink
Cattle peeking at us
this watering hole in the desert is called a tank
Now to the original site of Congress, now all gone, moved on down the road, but the old cemetery is still here. A few headstones from the late 1800's and early 1900's , well over 100 years ago.
Now down the road to the mine. Al posted some of these pics a while ago but now we saw them in person. So real and so much like the southwest.
"No Trespasin"
Then around past this castle here in old Congress,
After we had lunch at home, into town explore a few other places as well. So many interesting places to check out.

Al has a new friend
Back home for  the rest of the day, relax, putter around but no sunshine today, a bit cooler and our solar panel was not getting much of a charge. Nice to have the generator for days like this just to top up our batteries.
cloudy day today
Tonight I am not cooking,  hmm what to do? Well check tire pressures, store our Weber Q and read for a while. Al and Kelly want to treat us to a pizza and a very good pizza it was. Huge, the 4 of us could not finish it.
That's it , we had a feast and more non stop conversation until time to call it quits, gotta go home and leave these people alone. Getting late ya know.
Tomorrow heading a bit further south into the desert to enjoy more desert vistas.
Nice that y'all dropped by and hope you had a wonderful day too.

  3. Another great day. Looks like All and Kelly have been wonderful tourist guides for that area, don't think you missed many of the sites there. Glad you all had a wonderful get together. We love the desert and the cactus but we can only deal with it so long, we really love the mountains and the trees more.

    1. They have been fantastic showing us things we probably never would have seen otherwise.
We love the desert, scenery and climate, but the beauty of this lifestyle is we do see lots of other places as well. We see mountains in our travels and lots of trees in the summer months.

  5. I have a Jeep Liberty 4x4 that looks just like the one in your pictures. It has been towed behind my motorhome for many miles. Love your pictures and explanations. And you ended a perfect day of sight-seeing with a great pizza. Doesn't get much better than that. . .
