Sun. Feb. 28th Huatabampito

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer, since August. 2006

A little cooler now

A bit overcast today, but we are on the road this morning. I chatted for a bit with Horacio and said goodbye. Yesterday he had built a native "Sweat lodge" in preparation for today's workshop and spiritual cleansing this afternoon in the sweat lodge, which we were invited to. But we are prepared to move on, if we don't we will never make it back to Ontario.
A nice drive thru a lot of back country farmland crops were prospering, with the help of major irrigation. While traveling here in Mexico in still amazes us how friendly these people are. Truck drivers, farmers, bus drivers, passing cars, people at the side of the road, even children like to wave at us and smile. In the Pemex (gas station) 4 attendants come over and we try to converse in broken English and our very poor Spanish, they are interested to know where we are from and what Canada is like.

Complete stop!
When driving in Mexico we quickly learned that stop signs only mean stop if nobody is coming, maybe slow down a bit! But this sign really means it, especially with the presidents sticker under the word Total.
When we got to the toll highway we are supposed to go north but can only go south because of a barrier down the middle. There is very few overpasses so we head south about 2 miles to a "Retourno" where we can make a legal U on a 4 lane highway getting us back on track.
We went thru another produce inspection station and the inspector looked in our fridge and all was ok there, but he did ask for a cervasa. Laughing we carried on to Huatabampito (Whadda- bam- peeto) and El Mirador Hotel and Rv resort. Only 3 other rv's here so we had our choice of sites, with a beautiful view of the Sea Of Cortez thru our front windshield and the side ones as well.
We chatted with a few people, set up, relaxed for a bit then decided to try the excellent restaurant right here. With chips and salsa to start and scallops for an appetizer we shared a delicious seafood platter. All the different hot sauces on every table is always impressive but the bottle cozy the best. Cardboard and tape!
