Where are we today?
Stratford, Ontario

Last night after I got home, George called me and said there might be a bed available at the Stratford Perth Rotary Hospice today or Friday. https://www.stratfordperthhospice.ca/. If the link works, I will be amazed since I have not done this before.

This morning when I got to the hospital this was at his door. It is for everyone entering to be compassionate and respectful.

Later this morning things were moving. George was accepted into the hospice facility. Below are pictures of his hospital room. The hospital took care of arranging for him to be transported from the hospital to the hospice facility.

About 3 this afternoon, he was moved to the Stratford Perth Rotary Hospice. What a wonderful place. The next several pictures are of his new room.

 Big screen TV and fireplace.

There is a bar fridge in his room with a pull out queen sofa bed, in case I want to spend the night.

He was even on the computer for a bit. Not sure what he typed.
Supper was Sloppy Joe's, wedge roasted potatoes and real ice cream (what he had before was frozen yogurt). He ate it all.

We have started a list of things he wants in his room that I put on my calendar to bring tomorrow. Needless to say that list will be ongoing as he thinks of things. There are plans to decorate his room for Christmas and we will be using our decorations from the RV. It sounds like decorating day will be Sunday with his kids.

He was very alert this morning, especially when he saw the cold cereal I brought from home.

This is a secure building. You need buzz and be admitted in. You also need to sign in and out of the person you will be visiting.

There is a cook there that does the shopping and anything you might want he will get it for you. We will get an idea of the meals that are done there, so if you don't want it, you can bring anything he might want in. There is a microwave that we can use to heat anything up. One of the first things he asked for was a steak and bacon and eggs.

There is an area where the family can something to eat. Soup, crackers, dessert and snacks are available.

I took a brief tour of the facility and it is awesome.

We received so much information in a short period of time and they realize that we will not remember it all. We are on a new adventure.

George did very well for being alert and sleeping much. When I left he was ready to sleep.

One Day At A Time

  6. What a nice place. This should help George to relax comfortably and enjoy visitors better. Your link worked perfectly. Although you are doing great with the blog Suzie, I sure will be glad to see one from George again.

  7. That room looks great. Suzie will be comfortable when visiting now. I know that there is nothing more tiring than spending time with someone in hospital because the chairs and stuff are not comfortable. This room looks like it will be more like a living room for you guys and Suzie can crash there. And it sounds like you will have your own chef!! Maybe you can show him some tricks on the Webber.

  10. WOW this is like a 5 Star Hotel! What a wonderful and comfortable room and other sitting areas are so nice. When my Dad was in hospice they had this chair that opened into a sleeping thing it was awful and it would keep seperating as I slept and my butt would be touching the floor and the rest of me was fighting to not fall all the way throught and be stuck in the middle. I finally just slept sitting up.

George, will have some great food to eat in this place and so will you Suzie.
What fun to have the kids come and decorate the room for Christmas.

  12. Beautiful looking facility and it's a lot closer to the apartment so you won't have so far to drive after dark. Keeping you both in our prayers.

  28. Hospice is a totally different atmosphere than the hospital. George will get much more attention and personal care here as well as better food. Plus the bonus of a comfortable place for Suzie to spend the night. I have been busy the past few days and missed your updates but I am all caught up now. Both of you are in my thoughts and are the recipients of many positive thoughts every day! Keep on truckin' George!

  31. Looks like a nice place, but there is no place like you motorhome. My wife Ruth and I enjoyed visiting with you both, but now my wife, Ruth, passed away. I am so depressed and can't keep the tears out of my eyes. We had been together since junior high and married for almost 6o years. She sure is missed by me and the dogs. Just thought you would want to know.
