Warm, sunny, windy on a relaxing desert Sunday. And fun with friends.

Where are we today ?
clic a pic to enlarge it
Moving right along about to enjoy another day of this good life being retired. Here is th sunny warmer southwest . 44F at 5 am and enjoy coffees and breaky waiting for some sunshine then I will head into Yuma for a few items we need.
a nice sunrise happening on my drive to Yuma
First stop Alberston's for some back ribs on sale, A nice meaty rack for $5.80 a couple of good meals will be enjoyed with those. Then Walmart across the road for some groceries. Still looking for pearl barley. Nope not there. Then a light came on in my pea  brain. Our good friend Rob had mentioned Sprouts . Of course its been a few years since I was there. Ok got the barely I have been searching for plus a couple of packages on Mussels in tomato and Garlic butter sauce, Hey 2 for one another good deal. One more stop at Home depot for a piece of foam pipe insulation I use to cover the wiper blades on our coach when parked, Keep them from deteriorating and stick to the windshield in the hot sun. Lost one a week or so ago, but it was due for replacement anyway.
a very nice grocery store lots of different food here
Back home by 9:30 shopping taken care of and ready tp enjoy the rest of the day. Cut then insulation and covered our wiper blades. Plus couple of tennis balls to take the pressure of the wire blades. Not real pretty but cheap and does a great job.
wiper blades protected again
After a light tasty lunch I too a drive down the road to check out the Imperial Dunes just to see how bust to was there. A bing weekend there but with the strong winds saw an lot of rigs leaving that area, and a lot of toy haulers coming back here to store their rigs.
Sure is nt as busy as e heave seen it in previous years. but then again not perfect weather either.
this ice cream truck does a booming business here
on these weekends here in the dunes
Always enjoy  viewing these sand dunes ever changing with the desert winds.
a few kids here having fun with their toys
amazing views
apparently the original Star wars movie was filmed here
we have camped here a few times years ago this same weekend
much more crowded then
this sand rail is really moving
Driving around I ran into our friends from Ontario Kim and Ken checking out the action as well their first time here.
Kim and Ken in front of some nice desert toys
Back home relaxed for a while in the sun and out of the wind enjoying our e-readers. And at 2 pm the ice cream Social at the clubhouse. We shared a banana and each had one scoop of iccream with all the toppings for a buck each. A nice Sunday treat when we are here.
Barb doing the honours
oh my. what a treat for a buck and free homemade
oatmeal cookie very yummy
Back home to relax again in this wonderful sunny day, no complaints except for the wind gusts up to 27 mph from across the desert right onto our patio. One disadvantage of the corner sight open to the desert.
so we can enjoy no wind on the other side of our coach
Shortly after 3 pm  Kim and Ken Joined us for Happy hour and Ron dropped by for a while as  well. We flapped our gums told lies, shared stories and had a few laughs, This is what happy hours are about with our friends and people we meet n the road.
Happy hour over and time for supper. Have a huge chicken breast for supper, so I split it to share and did a shake and bake in our oven.  Not need to try and use our Weber Q with these strong winds hitting our Weber right on. I can be very versatile.
Made up some salsa with this mix we bought yesterday at the Market, just chopped up a couple of plum tomatoes and mix it in, No need to make a lot and was very tasty.
what great salsa mix
As our chicken was baking in the oven I caught a couple of pictures of the sunset that was beginning to happen.
last sunset pic tonight supper ready
the campsite across from us , nice landscaping
this sure did the trick tonight, tasty moist chicken breast we enjoyed
and heck more leftovers
Just another fun desert day we enjoyed, in the sunshine and warm temperatures .
Thanks again for taking a peek.

  1. Because we are here long term in Mexico we take our wiper blades off to protect them. You are moving a lot so what you do is the prefect solution.

    1. Taking them off for you is good idea, but for us always on the move the covers work well.

  2. Lots of wind down your way. Sprouts is a great store but the ones here are all to far from where I live.

  3. A couple of nice days with a couple of nice dinners. Ice Cream social is not a bad way to spend some time on a Sunday afternoon. Happy Hours with Kim and Ken always fun to spend time with friends.
I always find something we "need" when we stop at Sprouts. I do like that store.

    1. It has been nice and sunny here but too windy to BBQ even with my wind screen. The ice-cream social is always fun and a good deal. The sprouts store is vey nice Its has been a long time since I was there.

  4. Before my camping van went down with transmission problems I would protect my windshield wipers with "swimming noodles" from the Dollar store but I had never heard of using tennis balls to take the pressure off the wire blades...what a great idea!

Have wanted to ask a question about Kim's lime green wine container, does she like it? I wanted to buy one at Walmart the other day but it bothered me that it did not have a protective cover in particular if one is outside on a windy day.

    1. This works for the blades, less bulky and the tennis balls take the pressure off.
Kim like here lime green cup , it is stainless steel and keeps her drink colder longer.

  5. LOVE those ice cream socials. I've never stayed at Pilot Knob, but I'm thinking it would be a great place to stop. I use tennis balls and wiper covers. Sure makes them last longer!

    1. Pilot Knob resort is open to the public now , and we enjoy it here. Covering the wipers sure does help the pipe foam I use only costs a buck so thats what I use

  7. Excellent looking meal. I'm sure it tasted wonderful. We sometimes do Salsa Chicken, with no breading or coating of any kind, just spooning the salsa right on the chicken. Gives it a wonderful flavour. Protecting wipers we seldom use is a good idea. I never would have thought of the tennis balls. Stay safe and warm.

    1. I was thinking about using the salsa but have not shake n Bake for a while on chicken was a nice treat and tasty. Proct the wipers especially when parked in the sun , they will last much longer and the tennis balls keep them from sticking to the glass as well.

  8. Dunes looked busy but lots of fun.
I had the same problem trying to find pearl barley. So, I bought some frozen black eye peas with barley in them. So finally found barley in a H.E.B. store in Texas. Who know pearl barley isn't popular in the south.

    1. Have seen the dunes busier, but is a lot of fun we toured them a couple of times with friends in their jeeps equipped for the sand what a blast.
Yes pearl barley is hard to find but sprouts has it there in bulk. Not popular down here at all.

  9. Simple fix for the wipers for sure. Sounds like a few others do it as well.
These days would be very hot without the wind, but the sunny skies are veautiful regardless.

    1. Yes it is I have been doing that for years, sure makes them last a long time. It is very hot without the wind and we have a nice spot to enjoy the sun.

  10. George, we are always looking to see what you have come up with for dinnertime. You said you are versatile, of course you are, we know that! If we ever had a question about how to cook something, we'd ask you. Never saw that type of salsa mix, bet its also good for a chilli dish.

    1. It is a small world as you know nice to see them out an exploring the areas that we enjoy. The wiper blade covers do wonders for our wiper blades especially when we are parked for a few days.
