Canadian exchange is increasing our expenses big time this year ! Blogger still seems to work pretty good for us, almost...

Where are we today ?
This year exchange for us Canadians here really makes a big difference. For every US dollar we spend right now cost us $1.36 Canadian thats a huge chunk of cash. So we can compensate for that this year, more boondocking and less spending. The only good deal for us here even with the exchange in fuel and alcohol. And yes we do make use of that.
Got an early walkabout the desert this morning, couple miles under my belt. Then when Suzie ready we head out on a rare grocery run with the 2 of us. Usually I go alone.
morning sun hitting the mountain in the west
Shortly after 9 am we made trip to the Walmart in Parker 38 miles north of here. Just to stock up with a few items we can't get here in Quartzsite. We made good use of this trip and should be well stocked for a while now.
elevation good as is the temps
Back home for a light lunch then I took a cruise in the car way back here in the LTVA area  about 5kms (3 miles each way and it just kept going) endless dry camping sites it really is amazing. Always places to stay here.
dirts road seems to go forever
Today much cooler temps about 62 f but a NW wind 17 mph and not much sunshine. We were able to enjoy our e-readers outside for most of the afternoon, sitting in front of the coach and out of the wind.
still cool but at least no wind here
Shopping this morning picked the smallest chicken I could find 6.6 lbs! But only $6.60 US ($9.08 Canadian) dollars. Still a good deal and we love chicken. So with the wind I set up our Windshield and fired up the Weber Q 100. Took a bit longer today about 2 hours almost on high but turned out perfect as usual.
just made a salad and some Swiss Chalet sauce
and we had a feast
thats a big bird
yummy
While cooking the chicken we finally had a bit of sunshine and nice desert sunset.
With this huge chicken lotsa leftovers and a huge carcass so boiling it up tonight for some homemade chicken soup, made a wonderful broth.
another nice sunset
That was it for our fun day in the desert, Every day is a different experience.
Glad that y'all dropped by again.

  1. I write my blog in MS Word. Then copy and paste it into blogger. Then add the pictures from my computer hard drive. One time in 8 years I have had trouble when blogger went down for nearly a day.

    1. I have done that too when we don't have the internet, which has been pretty rare lately, That works pretty good too.

  2. When staying at "Q" we've made that trip to Walmart for supplies too. The price and selection is much better than the local stores.

I'm continuing to use Live Writer off-line and still think it's the easiest way to post a blog doing so.

    1. I like to support the locals, but with our healthier eating now some of these products are not available.
I have never used live writer, not available for a Mac, I have no problems with posting in blogger.

    1. Yeah I would think so, Your American dollar will go a long way in Canada, except for fuel and alcohol.

  4. We are feeling the pain if the falling dollar too. When are you coming this way?

  5. Maybe you should head on down to Mexico and use pesos ;-)

    1. We found it more expensive that the USA, especially lately, especially fuel costs and campground fees. That's the main reason we have not returned.

    2. Guess it depends on where you stay in Mexico, we find that it is still cheaper staying in Mexico. Our dollar goes further there than it would in the US but then we also don't stay in any RV park that would charge it's fees in US dollars.

    3. That's true, we can still stay here in southern Arizona less expensive, and we do enjoy the desert too much.

  6. That's a bummer, the exchange rate seems to have wiped out your bonus on cheaper gas. Seems you can never win. :c(

    1. Even with the exchange to gas is still much cheaper. So thats a good thing.

    1. It is wonderful there in the summertime, not so much now unless you like cold and snow. And your dollar goes a lot further too.

  9. Eh, George I didn't know you were Canadian. I would have found your blog earlier. We need to stick together, especially this year with all this political and racist crap going on. We have to be so careful with what we say.

    1. We are careful, no political views from us that's for sure
Yep we are from southern Ontario enjoying this amazing lifestyle.
Hope meet up with you at some point.

  10. The dollar is really making a difference this year. Too ban as gas is such a deal ($2.69 in Mesa yesterday) but RV parks by the night cost a lot after the conversion. Much cheaper to take advantage of monthly rates like here in Mesa at $450 / month including electric!

    1. It sure does, but the fuel costs and alcohol sure help. We don't like to stay in one place very long even after more than 9 years on the road, so our membership parks and boondooking make that possible.

  11. And it's still going UP !! The last charge that came through on my credit card was 39.44% HIGHER than the US price !!

  13. Managing the exchange rate is something that all of us ( Canadian) snowbirds have to contend with. It clearly affects one's budget. But we manage....!

    1. Yep we are managing too, still less expensive than staying in Canada for the winter.

  14. Like you, we are spending a lot less than we have in previous years. Free camping whenever we can and Thousand Trails in between. No eating out and making everything from scratch. Many ways of cutting back.
