First Thanksgiving Feast and fun family times.

Where are we today ?
We gonna do a Thanksgiving Dinner today with Suzie's Family at the retirement home in  New Hamburg, They rented the large family room with everything we needed. Fridge, stove, oven, tables chairs dishes and cutlery, very convenient.
Suzie's Mom and Dad prefer Chicken as opposed  to Turkey and thats just fine! The Turkey's love it !
This was the view from out Dining room table
 7:30 this morning, love it
Arrived about 10:30 and got everything setup just waiting for everyone else to arrive with their food for our 12:30 meal.
we ready set up for 23 of us.
Turkey in the oven reheating, coffee and tea made, juices poured.
toys for the great grands to play with
Food all here and ready eat on time. All came is slow cookers already hot.We have all we need, chicken, mashed taters, gravy, dressing, turnip, corn, broccoli salad, caesar salad, jello salad, home made buns, white beets, pumpkin cheesecake, chocolate cream pie and apple pie all homemade!
My broccoli salad I made yesterday and the recipe is HERE or on the sidebar on the my recipe blog.
lotsa food
Comment of yesterdays posting from Big Dude (Larry)  wanted to know what I was doing with the chickens yesterday and about my secret process. Not really hard (no longer a secret) but makes it so easy on the day of the feast. Cook your chickens or Turkey a day or 2 ahead of time. remove from the oven and let rest and cool for a bit. Remove all the meat from the bones. Remove all the skin and set aside. Slice up the meat nicely and put back into a pan, white on one side and dark meat on the other. Then drizzle some of the drippings all over the meat and even the cooled jell from later. Cover the meat with the skin and the pan tightly with foil return to the fridge. Now about 3 hours before you want to eat reheat in the oven 2-300 degrees until heated through. If you want more smell of the turkey cooking boil up the carcass or have a pot of soup going, smells like a fresh roasted turkey.  I did that for years in my restaurant and worked wonderfully.
This what I start with
then next day we eat
set on the buffet and all done, easy peasy
This is a file photo of a Turkey I did
a year or two ago, ready to cover and reheat
desert end of our buffet,
oh so good
I started with this then went back for a salad
did some dishes then desert
Main course done a few us cleared the tables and whipped up some of the dishes, then desert.
still enough desert for us too
The great grands were kept busy and we chatted, played a few games and all had a wonderful Thanksgiving Sunday get together.
Crokinole going on here
a fun challenging game
card games here
Before we now it the afternoon was winding down and time for people to head on out  we got home around 5 pm . Sun shining but beginning to set fast, temperatures dropping.
Checking emails and began posting our blog and heard some noise from across the road in the bean field. Clouds of dust in the air. So wander on down and they are taking the beans off. I got caught taking picture and an old friend Doug stopped to chat, one of his many fields, of 11 hundred acres of crops he has. Have not chatted with Doug for years, so nice to see him again. But he is heading home to feed his cattle. And he tells me his daughter just had a baby boy. Congratulations Doug and Kathy you now Grandparents!!
the dust from the combine is amazing!
Anyhow that was our fun first Thanksgiving meal with Suzie's Family, now to relax a bit and head off tomorrow morning and have another with my children and grands. Gotta love these family times and amazing weather for this long weekend.
Hope you had a wonderful day too, and thanks for stopping by.

    1. Thanks Leslie.
It was a wonderful, get together. I've always believed it's about the family time and good food, but don't need to be totally worn out too much to enjoy it. I like to work smart not hard and a bit of preplanning makes it so easy.

On the down side I'll bet that meal didn't help your diet.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    1. It was awesome and the secret is moderation, small portions. Not over stuffed and no more food today, will actually probably loose weight today with last meal at 1:30 pm and all the setup up and tear down.
Will do a similar thing tomorrow.
