Roast a turkey, make soup, fix a flat, we keeping busy.....

Where are we today ?
More wonderful sunny weather with temps to about 70f we will take it. The cold nights are great for sleeping. First thing after all my computing and coffees head into Plattsville for a nice country drive, chat with the guys, then by the time I get back home about 9 am I can get to work doing a few things.
First project was to cook up our 15 lb Turkey for Monday dinner with my family. I like to precook it so we don't have to deal with that on the day, works wonderful. First of all I make a cradle with butcher twine to lift it out of the pan. I roast it upside down, with the breast on the bottom so it is always nice and moist.
ready for the oven
For the first time ever I used Sandy's new Convection oven and cooked it a 325f for two hours uncovered and was almost done. Then I covered with foil for another 30 minutes and turned the oven off. I am really impressed with this convection oven thing. Not a Weber but not too bad in a pinch.
after two hours looks wonderful need 10 more degrees f.
While waiting for it to cool I took a flat tire off the Troy Bilt tractor here to the tire place in Baden Ontario. Tire and tube were shot so a new one was mounted and I installed it back on this tractor, this one works pretty good too! You need extra tractors when you have lotsa properties to mow.
While we were puttering around the neighbors dropped by to meet us, check out our motorhome and we chatted for quite a while, very friendly people they are. They have three very nice Irish Setter show dogs. I didn't see them but Suzie sure did.
In the meantime I deboned the cooked turkey, and boiled up the carcass for a nice soup broth. I then refrigerate, the deboned turkey, drippings and soup broth. Tomorrow I skim the fat and carve the cold turkey, with the fat free drippings its ready to reheat on Monday like I have done for years. Even way back when in my restaurant. So moist and tasty and a lot less work on the day of. Want to spell turkey cooking? Thats what the big pot of turkey soup is for, plus everybody loves a bowl of turkey noodle soup (with gluten free noodles) especially the grandchildren.
perfect sunny day and the leaves are changing colors
Now while in the kitchen doing this prep I may as well whip up supper too. Dennis is in the fields, Sandy working on projects, Suzie puttering about and helping me, so why not just fry up some wonderful garlic farmers sausage, some mini red potatoes and mixed veggies with a tossed salad.
quick easy and tasty
We do this stuff here in stages, Suzie's family here on Sunday and my family in Waterloo on Monday, plus we have a few other things to get done this weekend too. So its all coming together.
Thanks for stopping on by and hope you are enjoying this awesome fall weather too. Sure can't beat it for this time of year.

  2. You are definitely right about the weather being just perfect for this time of year.

I also remember doing multiple dinners on holiday weekends and think you might need those larger pants that you keep hidden away. LOL! Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.
